The Union County Sheriffs Office has received several reports of a telephone scam. Individuals are calling claiming to be an officer, sergeant or Sheriff from Union County or other agencies. These individuals are saying that you have missed jury duty or have an active arrest warrant and asking for you to pay fines and bond monies over the phone by credit card or pre paid cards. These individuals can call from any number and also can use call spoofing software to make it look like they are actually calling from the sheriff's office or other agencies. The Union County Sheriffs Office or other law enforcement agencies will never call and ask for this type of information. If you receive a call like this please report it to your local law enforcement agency.

The Union County Sheriff’s Office is excited to announce the start of the N.R.A. Eddie Eagle GunSafe Program in grades K-4.
This program is designed to educate children about gun safety in a fun and engaging way.
It teaches that guns are not toys and follows
4 core rules when encountering a firearm.
1. Stop 2. Don’t touch 3. Leave the area 4. Tell an adult. It is designed to prevent accidental shootings by teaching children to avoid touching a weapon and immediately report it to a trusted adult.
Luttrell Elementary School was the first stop for Eddie Eagle and the Wing Team with other elementary schools to follow.

The Union County Sheriff’s Office is taking applications for Litter Patrol Officer. The position is responsible for the supervision of inmste workers collecting litter on roadways and the enforcement of state laws. Starting pay is $18.00/hr. Health insurance available, TCRS retirement and 401k. Applicants must be able to pass a background check, physical and psychological exam. Applicants must be able to successfully complete the state training academy if not currently state certified. The Union County Sheriff’s Office is saddened by the loss of one of our own. Detective Andrew Woods will be deeply missed by the department, the community and friends. He was always willing to help anyone in need and always did so with a kind and loving heart. You fought a courage battle and can rest easy now. It was an honor and a privilege to serve along side you.

A Union County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Unit has been placed on Maynardville Hwy in front of the Union County Courthouse as a memorial for Andrew. Anyone wishing to place something on or around the patrol unit in honor and remembrance of Andrew will be welcomed.
