Tomorrow being Election Day, again you will see our names on the ballot. We would appreciate your support again as we seek another term as commissioners serving the Mayo Area Fire District. The past four years have seen many challenges but we are proud to report the state of our organization is strong. In the past four years we have been able to provide 24/7 staffing for fire coverage. Currently our volunteer ranks are also as strong as they have been in many years and recruiting is ongoing to bring others into the fire service. Many improvements in equipment have been made to improve our response and lifesaving abilities such as state of the art auto extrication equipment and many other small equipment updates. Last year we were able to obtain an updated millage rate which helped stabilize our revenue. Doing so allowed us to reduce the total millage thus lowering the taxes levied on residents of our district. Proudly, Mayo Fire District obtained an ISO rating of 3, 1 being the highest rating and 10 being the lowest, which is impressive for an agency of our size. Any of the successes we have achieved would have been impossible without the incredible staff and volunteers who are on the front lines each and every day, for which we are grateful and indebted to them for. While many improvements have been made there is still work to do. In the not so distant future many changes are on the horizon for fire service within Spartanburg county. We look forward to continuing to serve the Mayo community in providing the highest quality fire service. There are three names on the ballot with two seats to fill, we ask for your support again tomorrow as you vote to vote Martin and Blanton for the commission board.

As dawn breaks Election 2016 begins. Polls open at 7:00am and close at 7:00pm. We have had the pleasure of meeting many residents of Mayo and catching up with some old friends. It all comes down to the voters. All of the hours we have spent, the work we have put in, and the prayers all come down to the voting booth where the voters do their part. We ask for your support and your vote, many of you have already voted and we appreciate the votes already cast.

If there is one thing we ask you to consider when choosing candidates, consider experience. We have hands on experience within the fire department. We have helped make decisions within the membership of the fire department. We have ran countless numbers of calls, seeing, learning, and knowing what the needs of the fire department are. We have hands on knowledge of the inner workings of the fire department by being active with the fire department. We understand and know the needs first hand, not by just being told. Our private sector leadership experience provides us with skills necessary to offer management insight providing the most effective and efficient leadership to Mayo Fire Department. An organization is not ran strictly from the heart but from experience and intelligence. We are passionate about Mayo Fire Department and the Mayo community and strive, foremost, to be good stewards of the taxpayers money. If elected, we are prepared to hit the ground running, continuing the incredible legacy that has been laid before us. Our legacy is traced back to the early days of Mayo Fire Department when Dexter Blanton's grandfather was one of the first members of the fire department. Harold Blanton had an active part in the beginning of the fire department and was killed in a car accident (as well as his brother James also a member of the fire department) while going to get parts for one of the first fire trucks. Chris Martin's father-in-law, Jack Crocker, was a long time member of the fire department serving many capacities but most recently as commissioner. Our roots run deep in Mayo Fire Department and our pride for it is second to none. There are two seats to fill, there are three candidates running. It would be our pleasure to serve you as commissioners for Mayo Fire Department.

Just a tip for voting tomorrow. If you choose to vote a straight party ticket you must scroll through the entire ballot in order to vote in the nonpartisan local elections, such as the fire department commissioners race. If you have any questions about anything while you are voting ask the poll workers for assistance and they will be glad to answer any questions you may have.
