Most Wednesday nights are drill nights for the members of the Cologne Volunteer Fire Company.
During those nights we dedicate time to conduct truck checks, evaluate the condition of equipment, clean the firehouse, and/or perform training activities that allow our members to practice fire suppression and search and rescue techniques in different scenarios.
Last night our members dedicated a substantial amount of time navigating through a SCBA confidence course where they encountered multiple obstacles to successfully reach the end of the course. This course also incorporated areas where firefighters were required to employ search techniques to identify the location of victims, and a section where the two firefighters team became trapped and had to employ the firefighter down may day protocol utilizing the LUNAR method. This method helps firefighters in distress to effectively communicate the emergency by clearly transmitting critical details such as their Location, Unit number, Name, Air remaining in the SCBA cylinder, and the Resources needed to manage the emergency and successfully bring the firefighters back to safety.
As a reminder to our community members. We are actively looking for new members. If you are interested in joining our volunteer fire company or know of anyone that may be interested, please do no hesitate to reach out or feel free to stop by any Wednesday night to get a tour of the firehouse or grab an application.
