Cologne Volunteer Fire Company

Cologne Volunteer Fire Company Cologne Volunteer Fire Company (CVFC) is located in the Township of Hamilton (Atlantic County) New Jersey.

Cologne Volunteer Fire Company is located in the Township of Hamilton, NJ.2870 Cologne AvenueMays Landing, NJ 08330(halfway between the Black Horse Pike and White Horse Pike) This fire company is composed by approximately 26 active members (20 Firefighters, 1 Engineer, 3 Lieutenants, 1 Captain, 1 Assistant Chief and 1 Fire Chief) which dedicate their own time and sometimes resources to save lives

and protect the property of those in need. As a 100% volunteer fire company the CVFC firefighters are part of the 823,350 volunteer (2005 USFA statistics data) across the nation that perform fire suppression duties and provide emergency services to local communities. Being part of a local volunteer fire company is an opportunity for people to give back to the local community. This also helps local governments and township residents to reduce the cost of maintaining a 24/7/365 fire department staff. This is one of the reasons why 73% of all firefighters across the USA are volunteers and the rest are career or part time. In the last few years the amount of volunteers in the fire service has decreased substantially. This is due to a variety of reasons attributed to changes in lifestyles and the time required to respond to emergency calls and to train in order to maintain a high level of proficiency when an emergency call is received. For this reason the CVFC’s main goal is to increase its membership in order to provide a reliable service to the local community and neighboring areas.

Most Wednesday nights are drill nights for the members of the Cologne Volunteer Fire Company.

During those nights we dedicate time to conduct truck checks, evaluate the condition of equipment, clean the firehouse, and/or perform training activities that allow our members to practice fire suppression and search and rescue techniques in different scenarios.

Last night our members dedicated a substantial amount of time navigating through a SCBA confidence course where they encountered multiple obstacles to successfully reach the end of the course. This course also incorporated areas where firefighters were required to employ search techniques to identify the location of victims, and a section where the two firefighters team became trapped and had to employ the firefighter down may day protocol utilizing the LUNAR method. This method helps firefighters in distress to effectively communicate the emergency by clearly transmitting critical details such as their Location, Unit number, Name, Air remaining in the SCBA cylinder, and the Resources needed to manage the emergency and successfully bring the firefighters back to safety.

As a reminder to our community members. We are actively looking for new members. If you are interested in joining our volunteer fire company or know of anyone that may be interested, please do no hesitate to reach out or feel free to stop by any Wednesday night to get a tour of the firehouse or grab an application.

🚨❄️ Severe Winter Storm Alert ❄️🚨

We’re gearing up for another major snowstorm as Atlantic County is under a blizzard warning. Governor Mikie Sherrill has issued a State of Emergency effective Sunday at noon.

⚠️ Please take this storm seriously. Hazardous conditions are expected, and emergency response times may be delayed due to extreme weather, poor visibility, and dangerous road conditions.

✅ Preparedness DOs:• Stock up on essential supplies (food, water, medications, batteries)• Charge phones and devices ahead of time• Check on elderly neighbors and family members• Bring pets indoors• Keep flashlights and blankets easily accessible• Prepare for possible power outages

❌ Preparedness DON’Ts:• Do NOT travel unless absolutely necessary• Do NOT leave vehicles parked on roadways where they may block plows• Do NOT use generators or grills indoors• Do NOT assume emergency crews can reach you quickly in whiteout conditions

🚫 Stay off the roads whenever possible. Travel will be extremely dangerous, and keeping roadways clear allows plows and emergency responders to do their jobs safely and efficiently.

Please stay informed, stay prepared, and most importantly — stay safe!

Last night, we celebrated the accomplishments of two outstanding community members and volunteer firefighters with the Cologne Volunteer Fire Company .

These two gentlemen graduated from the Cape May County Fire Academy, and completed the FireFighter 1 training program which consists of aprox. 200 hrs. of classroom work and hands on training to equip them with the essential skills and knowledge in the areas of hose handling, ladders, forcible entry, search & rescue, and hazardous materials.

Their commitment to the mission of this fire company and their dedication to serving our local community is something to be recognized.

Congratulations Ryan Leavens and Dave McBrearty for your achievement.
