🕊️ Honoring a Daughter. Standing for a Community. Fighting for Awareness.

Tonight, Sheriff Joseph “TOKYO” O’Donoghue attended the Overdose Awareness Event at Angels in Motion Community Wellness Center in Pleasantville, an event he returns to every year for a deeply personal reason.

Sheriff O’Donoghue attends not only as the Sheriff of Atlantic County, but as a father who knows the devastating pain of losing a child to addiction. He continues to honor the memory of his beloved daughter, whose life was tragically taken by this horrifying disease.

For Sheriff O’Donoghue, this event is a reminder that behind every statistic is a family, a loved one, and a life that mattered. It is also a reminder that addiction does not discriminate and that awareness, compassion, prevention, treatment, and support can save lives.

Tonight, he stood alongside families, community members, advocates, and those working every day to bring hope to people struggling with addiction.

We remember those we have lost.
We support those who are fighting.
And we stand with the families who continue to carry the pain.

Public safety demands more than a badge—it demands preparation, continuous training, and a commitment to excellence.

Under the leadership of Atlantic County Sheriff Joseph “Tokyo” O’Donoghue, the Atlantic County Sheriff’s Office continues to invest in the professional development of its Sheriff’s Officers and senior staff.

Over the past 18 months, our personnel have completed an impressive 5,944 hours of professional development training:

🔹 2025: 3,464 hours
🔹 2026 so far: 2,480 hours
🔹 Total: 5,944 hours
*does not include mandatory PTC hours

This training strengthens readiness, builds capability, develops leadership, and prepares our personnel to respond effectively to the challenges they may face while serving the people of Atlantic County.

Training is an investment in readiness. Readiness is an investment in our community.

🌊 Building Stronger Communities in Margate! 👮‍♂️💙

Sheriff Joseph “Tokyo” O’Donoghue with K9 Officers Kleinow and K9 Kelso along with their partners were pleased to attend Law Day with the Margate City Police Department and their community partners this evening at the Margate City Library. Stop out if you’re in the area until 8 PM tonight. 

It is a wonderful evening focused on bringing law enforcement and the community together through conversation, music, face painting, snacks, and plenty of opportunities for residents to meet and interact with local officers.

Sheriff O’Donoghue and the Atlantic County Sheriff's Office thanks the Margate City Police Department and all of their community partners for hosting such a great event and for their continued commitment to strengthening the relationship between law enforcement and the residents we proudly serve.

Building Community in Atlantic City! 🌟

Sheriff Joseph “Tokyo” O’Donoghue attended today’s Block by Block Community Block Party in Atlantic City, joining residents, community leaders, and organizers for an evening focused on bringing neighbors together and strengthening the community.

The event featured live music from Gypsy Funk Squad, halal food, chalk art, yard games, face painting, grilled food, and community resources for residents of all ages.

Sheriff O’Donoghue was pleased to be part of this great community event and to have the opportunity to meet with residents and enjoy an evening of fellowship in Atlantic City.

Events like this demonstrate the importance of neighbors coming together, building relationships, and working together to create stronger communities.

🇺🇸 Honoring Those Who Served

Atlantic County Sheriff Joseph “Tokyo” O’Donoghue was honored to join the Longport community today for a special event recognizing and honoring the veterans who proudly served our nation and those who have called Longport home.

Sheriff O’Donoghue was joined by the Longport Chief of Police Burgan, Mayor Armstrong of Longport, and Atlantic County Commissioner June Byrnes and Commissioner Maureen Kern as the community came together to express its gratitude to the men and women who answered the call to serve.

Events like this are an important reminder that the freedoms we enjoy today came at a tremendous cost paid by generations of Americans who wore the uniform.

The Atlantic County Sheriff’s Office is proud to stand with our veterans, their families, and the communities that continue to honor their service and sacrifice.

Thank you to the Borough of Longport for bringing the community together to remember, recognize, and honor those who served. 🇺🇸

Today, Atlantic County Sheriff Joseph “Tokyo” O’Donoghue attended and participated in the South Jersey Vet Center Family Fun Day, a wonderful community event bringing veterans, their families, and community partners together for an afternoon of food, fellowship, and family fun.

The Atlantic County Sheriff’s Office is proud to stand alongside our veterans and support organizations like the South Jersey Vet Center that provide valuable resources, services, and support to those who have served our country.

It was an honor for Sheriff O’Donoghue to be part of today’s celebration and to spend time with the veterans and families who make our community stronger.

Today, Atlantic County Sheriff Joseph “TOKYO” O’Donoghue and Undersheriff Mario Suarez had the pleasure of attending the Atlantic County Mayors’ Meeting at Stockton University.

The meeting was an informative and productive opportunity to connect with our county’s municipal leaders and exchange valuable information. We also appreciated an informative presentation from Atlantic County Board of Taxation Administrator Theresa Prendergast.

Thank you to everyone who welcomed us and for the invitation to participate. We value the opportunity to work together with our county’s mayors and municipal leaders, and we look forward to seeing everyone again at next month’s Mayors’ Meeting.
