🚿 Planting and harvesting root vegetables around an older home?

If your home was built before 1980, soil near the dripline of your home may contain lead from deteriorating lead-based paint. This can cause lead particles to stick on harvested vegetables that were planted close to the house.

For safer gardening:
🥕 Plant vegetables away from the house
🥕 Rinse vegetables under running water.
🥔 Scrub potatoes and other root crops with a clean brush.
🧅 Remove excess soil before bringing produce indoors.

Taking a few extra minutes to clean your harvest can help reduce exposure to soil contaminants.

🧠 Alzheimer’s Disease Awareness 🧠

Alzheimer’s disease is a brain disorder that slowly destroys memory and thinking skills and eventually affects a person’s ability to carry out everyday tasks.

While there is currently no cure, treatments may help manage symptoms and potentially slow cognitive decline. Research also suggests that healthy lifestyle choices may help reduce the risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease.

If you or a loved one are experiencing memory concerns, talk with a healthcare provider. Early evaluation and support can make a difference. 💜

🌱 Gardening season is here!

Did you know that soil around homes built before 1980 may contain lead from the deterioration of old lead-based paint? Lead-contaminated soil is often found near a home's dripline, where paint chips and dust may have accumulated.

If your home was built before 1980:
✅ Consider having your soil tested.
✅ Plant gardens away farther away from the home when possible.
✅ Use raised beds with clean soil if lead contamination is a concern.
✅ Wash hands thoroughly after planting

Whether you're growing food or flowers, understanding your soil can help you garden more safely.
