On June 9th, 2026, Chautauqua County Sheriff, James Quattrone, CCSO Chautauqua CARES Project Director, Vito Randazzo and Chautauqua County Health Department Public Heath Planner, Steve Kilburn presented a seminar at the National Sheriffs Association Annual Conference, which was held in Omaha, Nebraska. The seminar presented was titled “From Jail to Stability: How Sheriffs Are Using Situation Tables and Re-Entry Hubs to Prevent Crisis and Reduce Recidivism”. The seminar included information regarding the Chautauqua CARES Re-Entry hub and the Situation Table. Jamestown City Treatment Court honors Sheriff James Quattrone with the Commitment to Excellence Award.

Accepting the award are Undersheriff James Rensel, Captain Jacob Stahley and Sergeant Phillip Lombardo.

National Treatment Court Month is observed each May to recognize the important role treatment courts play in helping individuals address substance use and mental health challenges while remaining accountable for their actions. Treatment courts bring together judges, treatment professionals, attorneys, law enforcement, and community partners to support participants on their path to recovery and stability.

These courts focus on rehabilitation rather than punishment alone, helping participants access treatment, build life skills, and reduce future involvement with the justice system.

Deputy Silzle visited with campers at Camp Onyahsa yesterday.
The Resource Center Camp is made possible through the dedication of the Resource Center Camp Committee in partnership with YMCA Camp Onyahsa Director John O’Brien and his outstanding staff.
This special camp experience gives individuals from The Resource Center the opportunity to enjoy a wide variety of activities for 4 days, including arts and crafts, fishing, boating, nature walks, and so much more.

Union Pacific’s famed Big Boy No. 4014 made a stop in Ripley NY today. This is the world’s largest operating steam locomotive. This stop was part of its historic 2026 East Coast tour celebrating America’s 250th anniversary.

Become a Law Enforcement Officer

Applications are now being accepted for the Chautauqua County Sheriff's Academy. Deadline to apply is August 18th, 2026. All who apply by August 18th, 2026 will be considered for our next Academy Session.

Since 1978, the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Academy has operated in partnership with Jamestown Community College to prepare individuals for careers in law enforcement. This comprehensive training program leads to a Certificate of Completion for the New York State Certified Basic Police Training Course, which is a legal requirement for municipal police officers in New York State.

Graduates of the Sheriff’s Academy are eligible for employment with most police agencies in New York State, as well as agencies in states that recognize New York State’s Certified Basic Police Training. In many cases, agencies may place Academy graduates into active service immediately, with minimal additional local training.

Narcotics Arrest

An investigation into narcotics activity in the City of Jamestown led to the ex*****on of two search warrants in the morning of June 4th with four persons arrested for narcotics possession. Narcotics Investigators from Chautauqua County Sheriff's Office and City of Jamestown Police Department executed the search warrants at 220 Lincoln St. Apt. 3 and at 109 Thayer St. Apt. 2 in the City of Jamestown. As a result of the searches Investigators seized over 29 grams of fentanyl, 1.2 grams of methamphetamine, a quantity of co***ne, scales and packaging material for the sale and distribution of narcotics and $1054.00. From the search at 220 Lincoln St. Fernando Velazquez-Nazario and Destinee French were charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 3rd and Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia 2nd. Lovella Kellom was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th. From the search at 109 Thayer St. Phillip Mckeown was charged with 2 counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 3rd, 2 counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th and Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia 2nd. Kellom was issued an appearance ticket to appear in Jamestown City Court at a later date. Velazquez-Nazario, French and Mckeown were transported to Jamestown Police Department to be arraigned in City Court. The investigations for both locations are still on going with the possibility of additional arrests.

Authorities continue to ask members of the community to call and report suspicious or narcotics related activity within their neighborhoods.
