The sizzle of the grill and the smell of summer favorites mean grilling season is here! ☀️🍔🌭

But with the fun can also come an increased fire risk if proper safety steps aren’t taken. Keep these important grilling safety tips in mind this summer:

🔥 Keep grills away from homes, decks, railings, and overhanging branches
🧼 Clean grills regularly to prevent grease buildup
🧯 Keep a fire extinguisher nearby
👀 Never leave a grill unattended while cooking
👧 Keep kids and pets at least 3 feet away from the grill

Memorial Day Weekend has arrived the unofficial kickoff to summer! Before firing up the grill for the season, make sure it’s clean and ready to go.

Roughly 1 out of every 5 grill fires involves grills that haven’t been cleaned. Grease buildup can quickly turn dangerous.

Take a few minutes to clean your grill, check propane connections, and keep anything flammable away from the cooking area. Stay safe and enjoy the holiday weekend! 🔥🍔☀️

A cold front will move through Tuesday and bring with it additional chances for showers and thunderstorms. A few storms could be strong to severe, especially during the afternoon hours, but uncertainty remains on whether or not the overnight/early morning storms will be enough to limit or prevent afternoon storm development, with the greatest potential south of I-55 and I-80. Stay tuned for forecast updates!

Maywood Residents! Due to an Emergency Water Main Break on 11th Avenue from Randolph to St. Charles Road, water service will be shut off. Our Public Works crews are onsite to fix the main and get the water restored as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience.

Our Maywood Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management officers participated in the annual Cook County memorial procession and service for fallen police officers this morning, held at the future site of the memorial display in Lyons.

950pm: The squall line is progressing through Chicagoland tonight. South of I-80 has the main spin up tornadoes threat at the time and I don't see any areas of rotation across Chicagoland north of I-80 currently. Pockets of strong wind gusts are along this line as well. Once it moves through the tornado risk is over.
