Pharr Yarns Preserve

Pharr Yarns Preserve The preserve will serve as a key link of conserved lands along the South Fork. In March 2009, Gaston County adopted its Carolina Thread Trail master plan.

Pharr Yarns Preserve is a 95 acre tract of undeveloped land along the South Fork River in McAdenville, North Carolina featuring one of the most scenic natural trails in the Charlotte region. Pharr Yarns Preserve, made possible through a generous donation made by Pharr Yarns and the Carstarphen family, offers walking trails and river access as part of the Carolina Thread Trail (the Thread), a fifte

en-county network of trails and conservation areas connecting more than two million people in the Carolinas. The preserve features 3.45 miles of river frontage, 69 acres of wetlands, protects 18,000 feet of riparian corridor and provides habitat for numerous species of wildlife and plants. The plan outlines the long-term course for greenway and trail development within the county and integrates local trails with regionally significant trail segments and conservation corridors. Gaston’s plan identified the South Fork Corridor, home of the Pharr Yarns Preserve, as a priority corridor for near term trail construction. The trail segment that runs through PYP will join the existing blueway, a paddling trail extending from the Spencer Mountain River Access downstream to the R.Y. McAden River Access, which opened in September 2009. Ultimately, The Thread’s South Fork Corridor will offer 9.5 miles of multi-use trails for public enjoyment.

This year's National Trails Day event in McAdenville was a huge success!

We had a great time celebrating National Trails Day with nearly 1,000 trail and river lovers in McAdenville on the South Fork Trail and River! Thank you to our community volunteers who cleaned up the trail before the event! And thank you to our sponsors, volunteers and exhibitors for helping us throw this fun-filled, free community party.

This local celebration of National Trails Day couldn't of happened without the support from American Hiking Society, Pharr Yarns, LLC, McAdenville Woman's Club, Gastonia Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram, REI, Sun's Up Scuba and Discover McLean!

Beautiful morning on the trail at Pharr Yarns Preserve! The water is high so it's recommended to access the trail from the north end (Riverview Subdivision in Lowell). Access from the south end in McAdenville is not recommended today because the stepping stones at the first creek are submerged.
