Testing will begin at 9 a.m. please arrive by 8:45.

🚔 **OPEN TESTING FOR POLICE RECRUITS**

The McAlester Police Department will host open testing for police recruit candidates at **9 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 15**, at the MPD station.

Testing will include:

• Written examination
• Four-minute row on a Concept2 rowing machine

Applications will be provided at the testing session.

🎒 WELCOME BACK, STUDENTS AND STAFF!

McAlester Public Schools students return to class today, while other schools throughout the area are also preparing to begin the new school year.

Drivers should expect increased traffic near schools during arrival and dismissal.

Please follow posted signs and directions, use designated drop-off areas, keep intersections and crosswalks clear, and remain patient with other drivers.

Watch carefully for students walking or biking and always be prepared to stop.

The safest start to the school year begins with all of us.

⏰ SCHOOL STARTS TOMORROW

McAlester Public Schools students return Tuesday, and other area schools will also be beginning the new school year soon.

Set the alarm a little earlier and plan to leave home with extra time. Expect school buses to make frequent stops and watch for children near sidewalks, driveways, crosswalks and school entrances.

Rushing can lead to speeding, abrupt turns and missed hazards.

Leave early. Slow down. Arrive safely.

A text, notification or playlist can wait.

Driving near schools requires your full attention. Put the phone away before the vehicle moves and continuously scan for buses, pedestrians and bicyclists.

With students throughout McAlester and surrounding communities returning to class soon, every driver has a responsibility to help keep the road safe.

No message is more important than getting everyone home safely.

🚶 LOOK TWICE FOR STUDENTS

Students will soon be walking and biking near schools, neighborhoods, sidewalks and intersections throughout the area.

Drivers should slow down near crosswalks, check carefully before turning and avoid blocking sidewalks or pedestrian paths.

Never assume a child sees your vehicle or will wait for you to pass.

Stay alert. Be prepared to stop. Give students room to cross safely.

🚸 FLASHING LIGHTS MEAN SLOW DOWN

As schools across the area prepare to reopen, drivers should be ready for active school zones throughout the community.

Reduce your speed when school-zone lights are flashing, stay alert and be prepared to stop.

Children can be difficult to see between parked vehicles and may move unexpectedly near the roadway. Watch for crossing guards and follow all posted signs and directions.

Saving a few seconds is never worth risking a life.

🛑 RED LIGHTS MEAN STOP

School buses will soon be back on roads throughout McAlester and surrounding communities.

When a school bus is stopped with its red loading lights flashing, drivers meeting or overtaking the bus must stop before reaching it.

Remain stopped until the loading signals are deactivated, then proceed slowly and cautiously.

A stopped school bus means children may be entering the roadway—even when you cannot see them.

Be patient. Pay attention. Protect our students.

🚸 BACK TO SCHOOL. BACK TO SAFE DRIVING.

McAlester Public Schools students return Tuesday, Aug. 11, and students at other schools across the area will also be heading back to class soon.

That means school buses, children walking and biking, and heavier morning and afternoon traffic will soon return to our streets.

The McAlester Police Department reminds drivers to slow down, put away distractions and build a little extra time into their commute.

Slow down. Look twice. Get everyone there safely.
