Today, we have the honor of recognizing and celebrating Edwin Navejar Flores and Camilla Piedra Macedo for an incredible accomplishment: successfully completing the English Learner Program by passing the highly challenging WIDA ACCESS assessment last spring. Both students celebrated by ringing the Success Bell!

This is no ordinary achievement. The WIDA ACCESS assessment is more rigorous than our state tests and requires students to demonstrate strong skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Reaching the level necessary to pass this assessment and complete the English Learner Program especially by the time students reach high school is a tremendous accomplishment.

Edwin and Camilla have shown us what can happen through hard work, perseverance, determination, and a willingness to keep growing. Join us in congratulating them!

We're officially ONE MONTH AWAY from McAlester High School's 2026 All School Homecoming Ceremony!

Mark your calendars and get ready to celebrate tradition, pride, and community with fellow Buffaloes both past and present! Whether you're a student, alumni, or proud supporter, this is the event we come together to honor our legacy.

Homecoming Parade will be Monday, September 28th at 6:30pm on Choctaw Inclement weather parade back up date will be Thursday, October 1st at 6:30pm
MHS All School Homecoming Ceremony will be Friday, October 2nd at 6:15pm
The Buffaloes take on the Coweta Tigers at 7:00pm at Hook Eales Stadium

You won’t want to miss the parade, ceremony, and all the festivities leading up to the big game! Go Buffs!

🎉 Mayor Justin Few recognized members of the McAlester High School Pom and Cheer teams for their outstanding achievements and for representing McAlester with pride.

Several MHS athletes earned All-American honors while competing alongside talented students from across the country through UDA and NCA programs. Those honors can open the door to special performance opportunities, including events at destinations such as Walt Disney World and Hawaii.

These student-athletes have also built an impressive record of success, including state championships and a fourth-place national finish, all while working hard in the classroom and representing their school and community.

Mayor Few congratulated the athletes on their accomplishments and wished them a great season as they prepare to cheer on the Buffaloes! 🦬💛
