Check out the Senior Center meal schedule for this week! Lunch is served at 11:30 a.m. at the J.I. Stipe Center and the suggested donation is $2 per meal. Anyone at least 60 years old is eligible to register, or to be registered by a loved one, by calling 918-715-3442. The Senior Center also offers tons of activities each week/month, like bingo, dominoes, bunco, a monthly jamboree, various card games, board games, low-impact senior fitness, guest speakers and more.

Crews are responding to a 6-inch water main break near North A Street and West Springer Avenue.

Water service is expected to be shut off within the hour while repairs are made.

Affected area:
💧 West Springer Avenue from North Hickory Street to North Pine Street

⏱️ Estimated repair time: 4–6 hours

Crews will work to restore service as quickly as possible. We appreciate everyone’s patience while repairs are completed.

Earlier this summer, the crew from LOST IN with DJ BBQ spent several days exploring McAlester — meeting people, trying local food and experiencing some of the places that help tell our community’s story.

Later this month, we’ll finally get to see McAlester through their eyes.

💧 Whatever it takes to keep McAlester moving.

Most people don’t get to see what goes into keeping a city’s infrastructure working.

At Sixth Street and Osage Avenue, that meant getting down in the water and mud to get the job done.

We’re proud of the City of McAlester employees who do this kind of work every day — often in tough conditions and behind the scenes — to keep essential services running for our community.

The City of McAlester is responding to an emergency waterline break near Fifth Street and Osage Avenue.

Water service is expected to be shut off around 4 p.m. today, Sept. 3, 2026, while crews make repairs. The affected area includes Osage Avenue between Fifth and Sixth streets.

The outage is expected to last approximately 4-6 hours.

We appreciate residents’ patience as crews work to restore service as quickly as possible.

The City of McAlester plans to temporarily reopen Sixth Street between Carl Albert Parkway and Choctaw Avenue this afternoon.

Crews are currently sweeping and cleaning the roadway to help ensure it is safe for traffic before reopening.

Choctaw Avenue will remain closed between Sixth Street and Fifth Street. Businesses along that section will remain accessible, and customers will be able to reach them during the closure.

Motorists are reminded that the current surface on Sixth Street is temporary and is not the finished roadway. Sixth Street will close again when construction begins on the next phase of the Sixth Street Reconstruction project.

The City will provide advance notice before that closure occurs.
