Due to COVID-19 and Delta Variant, we will be canceling the Pearl Harbor and 9-11 ceremonies that were scheduled for Saturday.

Never forget the surprise attack by foreign forces who bombed Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941 and the terrorists striking the Twin Towers, N.Y. & Pentagon, Washington, D.C. with airplanes on Sept. 11, 2001.

The Pearl Harbor attack resulted in America entering WWII. In the war, U.S. Military forces experienced approximately one Million casualties.

The September 11 attack resulted in the U.S. military entering war in Afghanistan.

VETERANS DAY CEREMONIES 2019

Veterans Day will be celebrated on Monday, Nov. 11, 2019 beginning at 9:30am with the beautiful sounds and voices of the McAllen High School band and choir. We have a delightful surprise with 1st Sgt. Christina Wilson speaking to us from Afghanistan, as our previous master of ceremonies she will bring us up to date on the situation and discuss the 3 IED bomb explosions that occurred near her. The band and choir will perform the beautiful hymn The Battle of the Republic. This beautiful and inspiring song will be followed by the presentation of the the Congressional Gold Medal to the 65th Regiment, (USA) and its members. The medal will be presented to Myriam Morales Klusmann, for her brother Jose who was killed in Korea. Master Sergeant Daniel Jaime Purple Heart recipient will also be recognized with this medal. We are looking forward to the keynote speakers address by U.S. Congressman Vincente Gonzalez, District 15. His address concerning the contributions and sacrifices of American military personal and their families for the past 244 years and their future protecting this wonderful gift of freedom and independence. Remember, the 1.3 million American military men and women who died in creating and protecting this precious gift of freedom we enjoy today. While you are at the Memorial, visit the 15 new walls which will be the children’s Plaza of History stories. They will be engraved in granite. These stories will be authored by school children and form the basis for the new “Children’s Library of American History Stories.” For further information please call Col. Frank Plummer at 956-631-2511 or Jan Hartzog at 956-585-1312.
