Vinton County Prosecuting Attorney, William L. Archer, Jr. and Vinton County Treasurer, Vicki Maxwell announce the next round of tax foreclosure sales.

The next sale will be held on Monday, October 27, 2025, at 10 a.m. in the lobby of the Vinton County Courthouse, 100 East Main Street, McArthur, Ohio.

Terms of the sale-10 percent down day of the sale by cash or certified check, balance due upon confirmation of sale.

Since taking office in August 2023, Vinton County Prosecuting Attorney, William L. Archer, Jr. has worked diligently with Vinton County Treasurer, Vicki Maxwell to collect nearly half a million dollars in delinquent taxes owned to Vinton County. Prosecutor Archer added “it remains a priority of my office to pursue taxpayers who are severely delinquent in their back taxes. The Vinton County Prosecutor’s Office announces the indictment and arrest of the former McArthur Water Clerk.

Cathy Stoughton, 71, of McArthur, was indicted on Friday in the Vinton County Common Pleas Court Grand Jury following an ongoing investigation by the Ohio State Auditor’s Office.

Stoughton was indicted on one count of theft in office, a felony of the third degree, four count tampering with records, felonies of the third degree and one count of soliciting improper compensation, a misdemeanor of the first degree.

Stoughton was arrested Tuesday, August 19 by the Vinton County Sheriff’s Office and will be held pending arraignment at the Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail.

Prosecutor William L. Archer, Jr. states that the prosecutor’s office takes very seriously cases of alleged theft from Vinton County tax payers and appreciates the hard work from the Ohio State Auditor’s Office.

The investigation is on-going by the Ohio State Auditor’s Office.

The Vinton County Prosecutor’s Office is accepting resumes for the position of Victim Advocate. The Victim Advocate is responsible for assisting the victims of crime to apply for services, including VINE, Victims of Crime Compensation, Civil Protection Orders, Civil Stalking Orders and any other victim related resource. The Victim Advocate will explain the court system to victims and will help victims understand their rights and the resources that are available to them. The Victim Advocate will also be available to accompany victims to court and/or appear on their behalf. This position is grant funded through the Ohio Attorney General’s Office.
