The Vinton County Commissioners met for their weekly meeting on July 14, 2026. Minutes of the previous week were read and with a Motion by Mr. Cozad, 2nd by Mr. Eberts they were approved.
Prosecutor, William Archer, attended the commissioners meeting asking for $20,000 additional money to help with the cost of the Siders case. If all of it is not used it will be returned. He has some help from the state but it will not cover all. The children services cases will be another expense as the county is asking for permanent custody of the children. The commissioners will discuss and determine where the money will come from.
Terri Fetherolf, Development Director, had updates; The OZ-2.0 application was submitted 7/19/26. The Opportunity Zone-2,0 is a federal program to provide tax incentive to encourage private investments in low income census tracks. This is for the west northern part of Vinton County to north Brown Township. EMS renovation is still on hold because we are waiting on Department of Commerce for the approval of their change plans. Bids are due by 5:00 pm on 7/17/26 on the demo of the interior of the sheriffs building.
Bill Faught, EMA, submitted Mitigation Plan in case of a disaster that is done and adopted into the county policy. Mr. Cozad made a Motion to approve with Mr. Eberts 2nd the motion. These are rules in case of any type of emergency.
Nick Rupert and Fred Baddn attended the meeting to discuss issues of the airport. They are looking into partnership with Hocking County as they have no airport. The fuel tank credit card program will not work until they obtain a good internet system. They are checking with Starlink. There is an issue with water leaking around an area on the side of the building. There are some trees that need taken out, but will meet with Lisa Graves to walk the lines to see which ones.
Mr. Cozad made the Motion to approve the invoice from Koorsen to repair the sprinkler system at the Job & Family Service building with Mr. Eberts 2nd the motion. All voting Aye.
Mr. Cozad made the Motion to approve the AEP contract and the Daft Solutions for the electrical work that needs done at the future EMS building with Mr. Harper stepping down to approve. Mr. Cozad and Mr. Harper Aye with Mr. Eberts Nay.
Mr. Eberts made the Motion to give a pay raise to the dog warden, Mike Klein $17.00 and to assistant maintenance, Kurt Brozac $14.00 with Mr. Cozad 2nd the motion. All voting Aye.
Aidan Reagh, Department of Tourism Director gave us updates on the small grants. These are for people that want to start some business that pertains to tourism. Also, they will be redoing their website. There is a meeting today at noon.
Mr. Eberts made the Motion, 2nd by Mr. Cozad to approve Edit list 28 bills, transfers, appropriation approved and to adjourn the meeting. Roll call showing all voting Aye.
