For the sixth year in a row, our wonderful town is celebrating Light Up McCaysville, with festivities beginning on Nov. 29th. Shortly after sunset, we will light the 30-foot tree on the deck of Riverwalk Shops. We invite our community of friends from around the region to join us in giving thanks for all our blessings.

With so much excitement, please plan for potential traffic delays.

The sights and sounds of the holidays will last all season long at our downtown shops and restaurants, especially on Saturday, Dec. 7th, at 2 p.m. That’s when the Copperhill Kiwanis Club will celebrate their annual Christmas Parade! Running along Blue Ridge Dr., you won’t want to miss this very special event. The parade lineup will be at our city park on East Tn Ave at 1 p.m.

For everyone’s safety, some downtown McCaysville roads will be temporarily closed for Light Up as well as for the Christmas Parade. Please support my staff and officers by being patient with us and our visitors. They love our riverside community for all the same reasons we do, especially the ‘Southern Hospitality’ and kindness everyone expects.

Thank you,
Michael Otis Earley
Chief of Police / Projects and Special Events Manager

Throughout the past weeks, I’ve been involved in search and rescue efforts and delivering supplies to communities devastated by the recent hurricanes. One town that stood out to me was Marshall, NC. After seeing the extent of the damage and meeting Chief Kenny Brown, who lost most of his police department’s resources, I knew I had to do something.

Chief Brown has been working tirelessly to keep the peace with almost nothing to work with. His police department lost its cars, equipment, and supplies, but he has remained determined to protect his community. I felt compelled to help.

I reached out to several agencies in my network with the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, and today, we were able to make a difference. We provided every officer with new uniforms, gun belts, boots, tasers, guns, and office supplies. This was made possible thanks to the support of the City of Holly Springs Police Department, the City of McCaysville Police Department, and Smyrna Police Distributors, who helped coordinate with both departments to meet these critical needs.

There is still more to be done, and we’re working hard to gather additional supplies, including a police car, to help them continue serving their community.

Thank you to everyone who has stepped up to help. Chief Brown and his team are the heart of this town, and they need our continued support as they rebuild. Together, we are making a real impact.
