As e-bikes become more common throughout our community, it's important for riders to understand whether their bike meets Washington's legal definition. If it doesn't, different laws regarding licensing, registration, equipment, and where it can be operated may apply.

We encourage everyone to take a few minutes to learn the regulations, talk with your family about safe riding, and make sure your e-bike complies with state law. Have fun, ride responsibly, and stay safe! 🚲

FROM THE GRAYS HARBOR COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE: "Seventeen Years. It is hard to believe that another year has passed since 10-year old Lindsey Jo Baum disappeared from our community.

"There are cases that stay with you throughout your career and then there are cases that stay with an entire community forever. Lindsey's is one of those cases.

"As Sheriff, I often think about Lindsey, the life she should have had and the family who has spent every day since June 26, 2009, carrying an unimaginable burden.

"No parent should ever have to endure that kind of pain and no child should ever have their future taken from them.

"While years have passed, our commitment has not.

"The Grays Harbor County Sheriff's Office has never stopped believing that someone knows what happened. Memories fade, relationships change and people sometimes find the courage to do the right thing years later. Even the smallest detail could be the piece that finally brings answers.

"To Lindsey's family, please know that she is not forgotten. Her name is still spoken. Her story is still told. And our determination to seek justice for her remains as strong today as it was the day she disappeared.

"If you know something, no matter how insignificant you think it may be, I ask you to come forward. Your information could help provide the answers Lindsey's family has waited 17 years to hear.

"Today, I ask our community take a moment to remember Lindsey Jo Baum. Keep her family in your thoughts.

"Lindsey deserves justice. Her family deserves answers. And we will never stop seeking both."

On 6/17/2026, at approximately 7:30 PM, an on-duty officer with the McCleary Police Department was involved in a traffic collision with a pedestrian in the area of Bear Street and N 5th Street.

Emergency medical personnel responded to the scene and provided medical assistance. The pedestrian was transported to a medical facility for evaluation and treatment.

The involved officer remained at the scene and has cooperated fully with the investigation. This incident is being investigated by the WSP to determine the circumstances surrounding the collision.

No further information is available for release at this time as this is an open investigation. The McCleary Police Department is committed to transparency and to ensuring a thorough and impartial review of this incident.

Both lanes are blocked on the 300 block of N Summit Road due to a fallen tree. Motorists should use E. Mommsen Street or Beck Street to N First Street to bypass the closure.

Today, the McCleary Police Department honors and remembers the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving our country.

Memorial Day is more than a long weekend — it is a time to reflect on the courage, dedication, and selflessness of those who gave their lives to protect the freedoms we enjoy every day. We are forever grateful to our fallen heroes and the families who carry their legacy forward.

As we gather with family and friends today, we ask our community to take a moment to remember those who never made it home.
