It is well established that we have seen a recent increase in gun violence in our small town. We stand here today to let you the citizens know that it has not gone unnoticed and we will not stand by and continue to let these events occur without fear of punishment and stern prosecution of the offenders responsible for these crimes. If you are caught with an illegal weapon or a weapon you are prohibited from possessing, you will be prosecuted to the fullest extent allowable under South Carolina Law. If you so chose to use one of those weapons in a violent crime against any of our law abiding citizens or visitors I can assure you we along with County and State Agency assistance will find you and your punishment will be swift and harsh. We will continue to direct resources to areas most impacted by violence and trauma as we work to deter further violence and identify those responsible. The safety of our community is paramount. Our department strives to reduce and deter crime to keep our residents and visitors safe. The McColl Police Department and Town Officials are calling on our community to stand with us, “to put the guns down and end the violence.” We ask each of you, “if you know something say something.” Together we continue our focus on improving public safety in McColl.
