Heads up we will be having an upcoming detour from South Park Drive (State Route 186) as Advanced Excavating and Demolition will be doing work for the Community Center.

Yesterday May 22nd at 6:03pm a call was placed to the Hancock County Sheriff's Office regarding a female that had collapsed at a residence on North Liberty Street. Initially McComb PMP was called and upon arrival was informed that there were 2 younger children (12 and 8 years old) in the house one of them being the caller. Once on scene EMS started assessing the patient and started to feel symptoms as well. Quick assessment and thinking by the EMS led them to believe they were dealing with CO Poisoning with all of the individuals in the house showing symptoms prompting a call for fire personnel and another squad due to the amount of patients and severity of the call. Firefighters and Off Duty EMS personnel quickly responded to the scene and helped get everyone in the house evacuated and away from the house. Once Engine 112 got on scene with manpower and air packs a thorough search for anyone else was done and found that everyone was out of the house. Air monitors were deployed to confirm an extremely high concentration of CO thought the house. An issue with the furnace was concluded to be the cause of CO.
We would like to SHOUT OUT all of those involved, especially the 12 year old girl that knew what to do in an emergency and to the EMS workers for their quick thinking and putting their themselves at risk by continuing to get everyone out of the house while being exposed as well. This situation is a reminder that CO is deadly and this could have had a tragic outcome for our community. 3 total family members were taken and checked out and we are happy to say that we were able to talk to them this morning and everyone was d**g fine. A job well done by everyone!
