🗣️September is National Su***de Prevention Month.

Child abuse and su***de are often tragically linked—but early, effective, trauma-informed intervention can help break that connection and give a child hope for a future worth living for.

It takes caring adults willing to talk, listen, believe, and act. Sometimes, simply knowing someone is truly listening can make all the difference. 💜🩵

We had a great two days at Attorney General Lynn Fitch’s 3rd Annual Mississippi Women’s Summit! 💕✨ Grateful for the opportunity to connect, learn, and be inspired by so many incredible women from across our state.

🗣️The reality is, your child will spend hours at school without you and you won't be there to protect them from every conversation, every friendship, every mistake, or every uncomfortable situation.

But there's something you can give them before they leave home: A voice inside their head that knows what to do. ✨
Here’s 15 reminders to make sure your child knows:

💙1. “YOU DON'T HAVE TO BE POPULAR TO BE VALUABLE.”

You don't need everyone to like you.

You don't need the biggest friend group.

You don't need the best grades.

Your worth doesn't change because someone doesn't choose you.

---

💙2. “IT'S OKAY TO BE NERVOUS.”

You can feel scared and still be brave.

You can miss home and still have a great day.

Courage doesn't mean you aren't afraid.

It means you keep going anyway.

---

💙3. “ASK QUESTIONS.”

Never pretend to understand something just because you're afraid someone will think you're dumb.

Ask.

Learn.

Try again.

Smart people aren't people who know everything. They're people who aren't afraid to learn.

---

💙4. “NEVER BECOME SOMEONE ELSE JUST TO FIT IN.”

You don't have to change your personality.

Your interests.

Your clothes.

Your voice.

Your values.

The right friends won't require you to disappear to belong.

---

💙5. “IF YOU SEE SOMEONE ALONE, NOTICE THEM.”

You don't have to become their best friend.

Just say:

“Want to sit with us?”

One small invitation can change someone's entire day.

Be the child who notices.

---

💙6. “YOU CAN WALK AWAY FROM CRUELTY.”

If someone repeatedly insults you…

excludes you…

humiliates you…

or makes you feel unsafe…

you are allowed to leave.

You don't have to stay just because you want to be accepted.

---

💙7. “IF EVERYONE IS LAUGHING BUT SOMEONE IS HURT, IT'S NOT FUNNY.”

“I'm just joking!”

isn't an excuse for cruelty.

Teach your child to recognize the difference between humor and humiliation.

---

💙8. “IF SOMETHING FEELS UNSAFE, TELL AN ADULT.”

You will never be in trouble for asking for help.

If someone threatens you…

bullies you…

touches you inappropriately…

pressures you…

or makes you uncomfortable…

tell someone you trust.

And if they don't listen?

Tell someone else.

Keep telling until someone helps.

---

💙9. “YOU NEVER HAVE TO KEEP A SCARY SECRET.”

Fun surprises are different.

A birthday surprise?

Okay.

A secret that makes your stomach hurt?

Tell me.

A safe adult will never make you feel like you have to hide something frightening from your parents.

---

💙10. “LISTEN TO YOUR BODY.”

Hungry?

Speak up.

Thirsty?

Get water.

Need the bathroom?

Ask.

Overwhelmed?

Tell someone.

Exhausted?

Rest.

Your body deserves to be listened to.

---

💙11. “DIFFERENT DOESN'T MEAN LESS.”

Different doesn't mean weird.

Different doesn't mean inferior.

Different doesn't mean someone deserves less kindness.

Teach your child:

“You don't have to understand everyone to respect everyone.”

---

💙12. “USE ME AS YOUR EXCUSE.”

If you ever feel pressured to do something…

say:

“My mom said no.”

“My dad won't let me.”

“My parents would never be okay with that.”

You don't need to explain yourself.

Let me be the bad guy.

I'd rather protect your safety than your popularity.

---

💙13. “KNOW WHAT TO DO IF PLANS CHANGE.”

Know who is picking you up.

Know who you can call.

Know where you're supposed to go.

Know what to do if something unexpected happens.

Confidence grows when children know they have a plan.

---

💙14. “ONE BAD DAY DOESN'T DEFINE YOU.”

You might get embarrassed.

You might lose a friend.

You might get a bad grade.

You might make a mistake.

You might have the worst day ever.

Come home.

We'll talk.

We'll figure it out.

Tomorrow is another day.

---

💙15. “TELL ME THE TRUTH—ESPECIALLY WHEN IT'S HARD.”

This may be the most important one.

Tell me when you're scared.

Tell me when you messed up.

Tell me when someone hurt you.

Tell me when you made a bad choice.

You don't have to hide your worst moment from me.

I may correct you.

I may ask questions.

But I'll listen.

Because I'd rather know the truth than have you face something alone.

---

You won't be able to stand beside them every time they're afraid. But your voice can still be there. Your lessons can still be there. Your love can still be there❣️
