Congratulations to Firefighter Jacob Stephens on being named McComb Firefighter of the Year!

The McComb Exchange Club recently presented the Firefighter of the Year Award to Jacob Stephens, center. Stephens, a Kentucky native, moved to Mississippi two years ago. He became a certified firefighter in April 2025. ‘He’s a really good firefighter. He’s an example for the young guys to model themselves after,’ said McComb Fire Chief David Fischer, right. ‘I’m really honored for the award,’ Stephens said. Firefighters William S. Thomas and Gabriel S. Alexander, members of McComb Class 2, recently graduated from the National Fire Protection Association’s 1001 Firefighter course. Throughout the course, they completed various modules covering fire behavior and suppression, rescue, incident command, and hazardous materials.

On Monday, August 25, 2025, the McComb Fire Department started its in-house 1001-1-2 class. This is the second class that McComb has offered in-house. It is the start of a long journey for our fire candidates, but they are an exceptional group of individuals. Stay tuned for future updates.
