Words of Wisdom from Chaplain Schmidt:

What does it mean spiritually to endure? I have endured many things physically and mentally throughout my life, but how often do we think about enduring spiritually?

Enduring spiritually happens when it seems like our greater purpose in life is far enough away that we grow tired and weary.

Just like physical and mental fitness. Spiritual fitness grows as we daily practice spiritual health. Daily habits eventually turn in to long term spiritual health. Don't take for granted that daily pursuit.

"RAT Training Opportunity - 931st ARW Chaplain Lunch and Learn - Spiritual Resiliency (4 Aug at 1200)"

Hello 931st Family,

Wanted to make everyone aware of an excellent opportunity to knock out some training while enjoying your free lunch at the DFAC. This will count as one of your required RAT Comprehensive Airman Fitness Briefings. The 931st Chaplain Office is putting on a Lunch and learn with guest speaker Retired SMSgt Willie Tucker. The theme is spiritual resiliency and he has titled his briefing “Unburdened”. Please RSVP as seating is limited. This will be at the DFAC Distinguished Visitor private dining area. Event is on August 4th from 1200 - 1300. There will be some time allotted for getting food prior to the discussion/brief starting. Looking forward to getting to know some more of our Airman and provide an opportunity for training to get accomplished.

Please state that you will be going in the comments. Seating is limited so please respond quickly. Have a wonderful UTA.

Kind regards,

Hello 931 ARW Family,
Just trying to get an idea of how many people would be interested in doing a book study group. It would be pretty low commitment. Just read a couple of chapters a month and we could have a 30 minute zoom meeting during the UTA to get to know each other and discuss the chapters we read.
Books would be spiritual fitness themed. I could give a few options with another poll to decide the first book. Please vote and let me know your interest. I will have to confirm, but chapel should be good to cover the cost of the books. Have a great month!

Looks like facebook ended my poll and it is no longer an option. Please use the like button for interested and sad face for not interested. Thank you.

Hello everyone,

Hope you had a wonderful UTA. With Thanksgiving approaching I thought it would be nice to talk about some of the benefits of gratitude. Gratitude is the expression of thankfulness. It includes appreciation of the every day activities we engage in. Sometimes the things we take for granted. Here are a few quick statistics I found regarding the benefits of gratitude.

"Regular gratitude journaling has been shown to result in 5% to 15% increases in optimism and 25% increased sleep quality."

"Gratitude reduces toxic aggression, frustration, and regret even after receiving negative feedback."

"Over 90% of American teens and adults indicated that expressing gratitude made them “extremely happy” or “somewhat happy”."

"A five-minute daily gratitude journal can increase long-term well-being by 10%"

There are many more statistics that show why practicing gratitude is worth the effort. Here are a few simple ways that you can accomplish this in your day to day life.

1. Take 5-10 minutes to journal about what you are thankful/grateful for.

2. Say out loud or pray about what you are thankful for.

3. Tell family, friends, and co-workers why you are grateful for them.

4. Take turns during a meal telling each other what you are grateful for.

This is just a few ideas please feel free to mention some ways you practice gratitude in the comments. The 931st ARW Chapel staff appreciate all of you and the great work you are doing. Hope you have a wonderful month.

Sincerely,

TSgt Love, Stephen P.
