Twenty five years ago. It’s hard to believe that much time has passed. Do you remember where you were? That question comes up a lot on this day ever since the tragic events of 9/11.

I was a couple of weeks into my sophomore year at Canon McMillan High School. The whole building was under renovation. Plywood walkways to get from one part of the school to another. I was 15 years old sitting in Mrs. Berry’s second period Astrology and Geology class. She left the room for a moment. I’ll never forget the look on her face when she walked back in and told us what had happened. Everything after that is a blur. So many unknowns swirling in my mind.

This evening, several of your McDonald volunteers will be attending a plant tour in a neighboring municipality along with three additional fire departments.

While we are out, our good friends right down the road at Sturgeon Vol. Fire Dept. will be helping to ensure our area is covered in case of any emergencies. Thank you Chief Delaney and team!

September 11, 2026 marks the 25th anniversary of 9/11. Ever since the Tunnel to Towers 5k Run & Walk Pittsburgh, PA started, your McDonald volunteers have participated in some capacity.

This year is no different - Team 12 House will send a crew of volunteers to run and/or walk the 5k to help raise funds for the incredible Tunnel to Towers Foundation. I’ve read that this year alone they are planning to provide 343 mortgage free homes to the families of the firefighters that gave it all on that day.

We need your help. On this 25th anniversary, I am calling on my team to put together our largest group of participants to date. I am also asking that anyone that is able to donate to please visit the link posted below and contribute to this amazing foundation.

As we remember the events of that day almost 25 years ago, let’s remember those that lost their lives whether they were just going about their daily routine or called to duty.
