***WINTER WEATHER ROAD SAFETY***
The cold rainy weather along with the strong winds can wreak havoc on our roads. This means possible power outages, icy road conditions, slow-moving traffic, and much more. Please remember these tips if you're going to be out on the roads and stay safe!
๐Slow down. Speed limits are based on normal road and weather conditions, not winter road conditions.
๐Use extra caution on bridges, ramps, overpasses, and shaded areas as they tend to freeze first.
๐If your vehicle starts to slide, ease off the gas pedal or brakes. Steer into the direction of the skid until you have regained traction. Then straighten your vehicle.
๐If you encounter a completely dark intersection, where all traffic lights are out, treat it as a 4-way stop. This is according to the transportation code.
๐Watch for downed trees and powerlines that could be on roads.
๐Donโt cross flooded streets or go around baricades.
๐Last but not least, please remember that 9-1-1 is for emergencies only, for all other non-emergency situations call Bradley County non-emergency dispatch at 423-728-7311. This includes for downed trees across county roads. They will dispatch our On call road department crews to clear the roads.
Stay safe & warm!
