PSA SAFETY ALERT

Twice this month, McDonald Police Officers took realistic looking BB guns off of juvenile suspects. The BB guns had manufacterer stampings, metal parts, and had the appearance and weight of real pistol models.
In both cases the juveniles said they had them "for protection".

In past incidents across the country suspects have been shot by police and citizens brandishing these facsimile guns.

We would advise parents to educate their children on the danger that these items can present . Charges are being filed against the juvenile suspects in these two cases . One case involved juveniles fighting and another case involved suspicious activity in which ma*****na, THC v**e, gummies and wax , and spray paint were seized .

We greatly appreciate all the calls and tips received in the car break in case along with the many shares to help spread the word. That is how a healthy community works for the common good . It helps us do our job of keeping everyone safer.

We are stronger as a communuty when we all work together for a greater good, which is keeping everyone safe .

This platform is just that. A place to share information. Just like any other professionals, we are open to constructive criticism. Anything to help us do our job better. We have broad shoulders and we can understand frustration. ïżŒ

What this will not be is a place to bash us or attempt to bully us because you didn't like the outcome of an investigation or you were charged with criminal offenses . A right to free speech does not give someone free reign to falsely accuse someone of crime .

If you have a complaint, stop in and see me, call me or email me . If the complaint is about me, then see the Mayor. If you believe that a law enforcement officer is corrupt, the DA's Office, the state Attorney General or the FBI is a better place to report it than posting it on Facebook .

If you see something you think is suspicious please call 911. That is our job . If something doesn't seem right trust your instincts . You're not bothering us . That's what we are paid to do .

Thanks for listening

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
February 9, 2026
City of Washington Police Department

WASHINGTON, Pa - The City of Washington Police Department is investigating three separate incidents that occurred during the morning hours of February 7, 2026. Investigations remain ongoing, and information is subject to change as additional facts are
developed.

Shots Fired Investigation – 600 Block of Allison Avenue:
At approximately 6:11 A.M., patrol units were dispatched to the 600 block of Allison Avenue for a report of shots fired. Upon arrival, officers located multiple shell casings. Detectives responded to the scene and processed the area for evidence.

No injuries were reported as a result of this incident. A vehicle belonging to the reporting party was struck by gunfire. At this time, there is no reason to believe this incident is connected to the other incidents described below; however, the investigation remains
active and ongoing.

Armed Robbery Investigation – 100 Block of Hayes Avenue:
At approximately 6:55 A.M., officers were dispatched to the 100 block of Hayes Avenue for a report of an armed robbery. The victim was not on scene upon officers’ arrival and subsequently met with officers at an alternate location to provide a statement.

Preliminary information indicates the victim was approached by several younger African American males wearing masks, with fi****ms present. The suspects reportedly forced the victim into their vehicle and transported him to a local bank, where the victim was compelled to withdraw funds. The suspects and victim then traveled to another location, where the suspects demanded additional funds through an application-based money
transfer.

Stolen Vehicle / Suspicious Activity Investigation – 700 Block of North Franklin Street:

At approximately 9:10 A.M., officers were dispatched to the 700 block of North Franklin Street for a report of a suspicious vehicle parked in a resident’s driveway. The caller reported the vehicle did not belong to him and observed damage to the steering
column. The caller further reported observing three juveniles in the area—two in a separate vehicle and one on foot. The juvenile on foot, who was wearing a ski mask, repeatedly apologized for the vehicle being parked in the driveway. The juvenile subsequently entered the vehicle and fled the area, followed by the second vehicle containing the other two juveniles.

The vehicle involved was later confirmed to be reported stolen out of Canonsburg Police Department. A Be-On-The-Lookout (BOLO) was issued for the suspect vehicle, described as a white Kia Sportage bearing Pennsylvania registration JXR-1000.

Investigation Status:
There is reasonable belief that the armed robbery and the stolen vehicle investigation may be connected; however, this has not been confirmed at this time. Investigators do not believe the shots fired incident is connected to the other incidents, though that
determination remains subject to ongoing investigation.

All three incidents remain under active investigation. Additional information will be released as it becomes available and as investigations progress.

Anyone with information, surveillance footage, or video related to any of these incidents is encouraged to contact the City of Washington Police Department:

On 02/02/26 Raymond Bertovich III was taken into custody by officers of the McDonald Boro Police Department at Magistrate Jack Kearny’s Office on a warrant for Recklessly Endangering Another Person and Possession of Instruments of Crime. Bertovich was given a $10k straight cash bail by Magistrate Kearney and remanded to the Allegheny County Jail.

A search warrant was then executed on his residence at 452 Fannie St by officers of the McDonald Police Department. The search and arrest warrants were the result of an investigation into him firing an AR type rifle and a shotgun off his back deck early in the morning on New Years Day. The department received multiple calls on the incident through the 911 center. An officer responded but no one answered the door.
The investigation also produced that he had provided false information to a federal fi****ms licensee and the Washington Co Sheriff’s Department on applications for fi****ms and fi****ms permits.

A search of the residence produced two .9 mm pistols, several hundred rounds of .9mm ammunition, drug paraphernalia to indicate the use and cultivation of ma*****na, unknown pills, prohibited offensive weapons , documents, artificial urine and permits to carry fi****ms. Three additional fi****ms were seized pursuant to the investigation which were a AR type semiautomatic rifle, a 12-gauge tactical shotgun, and an AK47 semiautomatic rifle. Additional charges for firearm and drug violations are pending.

We were assisted in the investigation by the Mt Pleasant Twp Police Department and the Washington County Sheriff’s Department Fi****ms Division .
