Just 30 days ago, Kevin Gilham stood beside his youngest son, Mason, proudly pinning sergeant bars on his uniform with Henry County Fire Rescue.

It was a moment that carried generations of family tradition. Kevin’s father, brother, grandfather and great-grandfather all served in public safety.

Kevin spent more than 35 years doing the same, as a firefighter, EMT, police officer and SWAT officer.

Today, Kevin is in a hospital bed being treated for B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia.

His diagnosis came after he suddenly began struggling to breathe following a vehicle extrication with fellow firefighters.

Just months earlier, his annual bloodwork had been normal.

His wife says watching the man she has loved since high school go through treatment has been heartbreaking.

She wrote about the things that matter most when time feels uncertain: Take the trip. Make the call. Sit a little longer. Hold the people you love close.

Kevin has spent his life caring for other people. Right now, his family is asking others to care for him.

Platelet donations are also needed for Kevin and other leukemia patients.

If you’re able to help, donate or share his story.

And please keep Kevin and his family close to your heart. ❤️

Committed to Community ❤️

Yesterday, Fire Chief Pat Wilson and Asst. Chief Frank Robinson attended service at Stockbridge Community Church to present Pastor Jeff Daws and church members with the only other commemorative sign recognizing Georgia’s first Safe Haven Baby Box.

We are incredibly grateful to Stockbridge Community Church for their generous donation that made this resource possible in Henry County. We also thank Henry County resident Amie Anderson for her determination and advocacy in helping bring this vision to life, and Safe Haven Baby Boxes for helping provide a safe surrender option for a mother in crisis.

This journey is a powerful example of what can happen when a community comes together with a shared purpose.

🔥 Sometimes the best reminder of the talent within our public safety family comes when we see that expertise being shared far beyond Henry County. This one deserves a little bragging.
Henry County Fire Rescue Captain Jacob Pritchett was recently featured in Fire Engineering Magazine with his article, “Prioritizing for Impactful Decision Making.”
His message: When the pressure is on, priorities matter. Captain Pritchett breaks down how keeping life safety, incident stabilization, and property conservation at the center helps first responders make sound decisions when every decision counts.
There’s a whole lot of knowledge, experience, and talent tucked away in Henry County public safety, and we love seeing and celebrating 🥳 one of our own take it to a national platform. 🔥
Way to go, Captain! TYFYS 🚒 🫡

The ability to make sound, tactical decisions separates those who know the job from those who just talk about the job.

Today was a pretty special day in Henry County as Georgia’s first Safe Haven Baby Box was officially blessed and placed into service at Henry County Fire Rescue Station 6. ♥️
Members of our Henry County E911 team were there to celebrate this important milestone and the people who worked so hard to make it possible. More than anything, this box means someone facing an incredibly difficult situation has a safe option, and a newborn can be safely placed into the care of first responders. 💖
We’re proud of our friends at Henry County Fire Rescue and everyone who played a part in bringing this exceptional resource to our community. 💛
Georgia’s first is right here in Henry County! 🎉

We were incredibly proud to stand with Chief Bess Simpson-Baugh as she was officially sworn in as Chief of the Henry County Police Department.
In public safety, the people you work alongside become more than partner agencies, titles, uniforms, and voices on the other end of the radio. You build relationships. You share hard days, good days, long nights, big wins, and more than a few stories along the way. Every now and then, those working relationships turn into the kind that stick with you for life.
We are so proud of you, so excited for what’s ahead, and so grateful we got to be there for this moment.
Congratulations, Chief. We love you for life. 🖤💙🖤💛🖤

Well deserved! Congratulations! 🌟
