What happens after water goes down the drain? Our Citizen Academy participants found out during a tour of the Walnut Creek Water Reclamation Facility!

As the backbone of Henry County’s sewer system, Walnut Creek treats millions of gallons of wastewater every day. Guests explored the facility’s recent expansion from 8 MGD to 14 MGD, learned how wastewater is reclaimed, and visited Georgia’s only solar dryer system.

It was another engaging and educational morning of learning how HCWA works behind the scenes to serve our community! 💦

Thank you Law Enforcement Division - Georgia DNR for stopping by Public Safety Summer Camp and teaching water safety to our campers!

06/03/2026

During Water Safety Day at the Henry County Public Safety Summer Camp, campers learned the importance of wearing a properly fitted life jacket and how it can help keep them safe around the water. Then, it was time to hit the runway for a life jacket fashion show complete with dance moves, impressive tumbling, and lots of smiles!

HCWA is proud to be part of this valuable learning experience and help equip Henry County’s youth with water safety knowledge that can last a lifetime. 💙💧

FOG (Fats, Oils, & Grease) should always go in the trash, not down the drain. 🚫 When washed down the sink, FOG from everyday foods can build up inside sewer pipes, causing expensive clogs and backups. Even small amounts accumulate over time, leading to big problems.

Common sources of FOG include cooking oil, bacon grease, butter, gravy, mayonnaise, salad dressings, and meat drippings.

Did You Know? 💧Your lawn may not need watering after a good rain!

Most grass in Georgia only needs about 1 inch of water per week — including rainfall. Overwatering can lead to shallow roots, fungus growth, and wasted water.

Before turning on your sprinklers:
☑️ Check your soil moisture
☑️ Look for signs of healthy grass
☑️ Skip watering after heavy rain

And remember: In accordance with the Georgia Outdoor Stewardship Act, outdoor watering is NOT allowed between 10 AM and 4 PM. For more water conservation tips, please visit our website: https://bit.ly/3J0dVFw
