📢 Labor Day Office Closure

The City of McFarland Office will be closed on Monday, September 7, 2026, in observance of Labor Day.
City offices will reopen on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, at 8:00 AM.

Public safety and emergency response services, including the McFarland Police Department, will remain available during the closure. For emergencies, please call 911.

For urgent water service issues during the closure, please call 661-792-3058.

Join Bloom Body Pilates for two beginner-friendly classes at Blanco Park.

🕚 11:00 AM & 12:00 PM
⏱️ 45–50 minutes
👥 Limited to 15 participants per class
📍 Blanco Park, 1000 E. Sherwood Ave.

Registration is FREE through the Bloom Body Pilates website.

Please arrive 10–15 minutes early and bring your own Pilates mat. No mats or equipment will be provided by the City. Participants are encouraged to bring water, sunscreen, and comfortable workout attire.

Spots are limited, so register early! For more information, contact the City of McFarland or Bloom Body Pilates.

At the most recent City Council meeting, participants in the City of McFarland’s Emerging Leaders Program had the opportunity to present a recap of their internship experience, sharing what they learned, the projects they worked on, and how their time with the City helped them grow both personally and professionally.

This year’s collegiate interns represented CSU Bakersfield, UC Merced, UCLA, and UC Davis and gained hands-on experience across several City departments, including Public Works, Finance, Community Development, and Administration.

Throughout the program, students were introduced to the day-to-day operations of local government and had the opportunity to contribute to meaningful projects. Their experience included exposure to areas such as project management, permitting and development processes, website and digital services, finance and administrative operations, records retention, clerical functions, and other responsibilities that support City services.

The Emerging Leaders Program gives students the opportunity to apply what they are learning in the classroom in a professional setting while gaining a deeper understanding of public service and the many career paths available within local government.

Their presentations to the City Council also gave each participant an opportunity to reflect on their experience, highlight the work they completed, and share the knowledge and skills they will carry with them moving forward.

The City of McFarland is proud to invest in programs that help prepare the next generation of professionals and public servants while providing students with meaningful experience serving their community.
We thank each of our Emerging Leaders for their hard work, professionalism, and contributions to the City of McFarland, and we wish them continued success in their academic and professional journeys!

We’re excited to welcome Kids Markets to this year’s Grape Festival on Saturday, September 19, 2026!
Through Kids Markets, young entrepreneurs have the opportunity to experience what it’s like to run their own business by selling handmade or store-bought products while building confidence, creativity, communication skills, and valuable real-world experience.

🍇 Less than one month to go!

The City of McFarland is excited to share more information about the 2nd Annual McFarland Grape Festival, taking place on Saturday, September 19, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Blanco Park.

Join us for a full day celebrating McFarland’s community pride, grape harvest, and strong agricultural roots. The festival will feature a 5k earlier that morning, live entertainment, food trucks and food vendors, artisan vendors, a farmers market, bounce houses, a petting zoo, family activities, games, a car show, grape stomping, health and wellness activities, and much more.

We are looking forward to bringing our community together for another great celebration and cannot wait to see you there!

🍂 Our Senior Services Fall Schedule is officially underway!

We’re kicking things off with a new resource for our senior community. This Thursday from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., Kern County Aging & Adult Services will be at Veterans Hall, 103 W. Sherwood Avenue, providing free in-person information and assistance.

Services may include Medicare counseling, IHSS referrals, fraud prevention information, community and nutrition resources, connections to services, updates on new programs, and more.

This service will be available on the third Thursday of the month as part of our Senior Services Fall Schedule.

🎓🍇 McFarland Grape Festival Scholarship Applications Are Now Open!

The City of McFarland is proud to offer the McFarland Grape Festival Scholarship Program to eligible graduating McFarland High School seniors planning to continue their education at a trade school, two-year college, four-year college, or university.

Scholarship funds may be used toward qualifying educational expenses such as tuition, books, required materials, and other school-related costs.

📅 Application Deadline: September 10, 2026, at 5:00 p.m.
📍 Submit applications to McFarland City Hall, 401 W. Kern Avenue, or to the McFarland High School Early College senior counselors.

Applications are available at City Hall, through the senior counselors, or at mcfarlandcity.org.

🎨🍇 Calling All Young Artists!

The City of McFarland is excited to invite children and youth to participate in the 2026 McFarland Grape Festival Kids Art Contest!

This year’s theme is: “What does agriculture mean to you?” Participants can show their creativity through a drawing, painting, or photograph.

The contest is open to all students in grades K–12, regardless of what school they attend.

📅 Submission Deadline: September 10, 2026, at 5:00 p.m.
📍 Submit Entries To: McFarland Unified School District, 601 2nd Street
🎨 Maximum size: 8” x 11”
🖼️ One entry per student

A completed release form signed by a parent or guardian must be submitted with each entry. Release forms are available at City Hall or can be downloaded from our website at mcfarlandcity.org.

Winners will be announced during the McFarland Grape Festival on Saturday, September 19, 2026!
