McFarland Fire and Rescue

McFarland Fire and Rescue A page to bring department updates and information to the citizens of McFarland, WI regarding the status of their Fire & Rescue Department.

In 2014 the Fire & EMS Departments for the Village of McFarland joined forces to become McFarland Fire & Rescue. The Fire Department was originally established in 1908, and EMS Department in 1977. The McFarland Fire & Rescue Department provides fire protection, and EMS service at the Advanced EMT Level (IV-Tech) to a 28 square mile fire district made up of the Village of McFarland and portions of

the Town of Dunn, and the Town of Pleasant Springs. In addition to the urban business, industrial, and residential portions of the Village of McFarland, Town of Dunn, and Town of Pleasant Springs, we also provide water and ice rescue coverage to portions of Lake Kegonsa, Lake Waubesa, and the Yahara River. We also maintain Mutual Aid agreements with surrounding area departments for larger incidents, EMS assistance, and Paramedic Intercepts. The goal of the Department is to protect the life and property of the fire/ems district residents and guests; and to educate them in ways they can protect themselves and their property through fire awareness and other safety campaigns. The department is made up of approximately 65 Paid-on-call members, and seven full-time staff which includes four Advanced level EMTs, and Administrative Captain, a Fire Inspector/Public Education Specialist, and Fire Chief. All Members of the Department are dedicated to providing the best service and care to those in our response area.

Today is Heat Awareness Day in Wisconsin. It's a day to prepare for staying safe and cool as the mercury rises throughout the summer. Simple things like staying hydrated, taking children and pets out of cars and checking in with loved ones during hot days can help keep you, your family and friends from hospital visits. According to Wisconsin Department of Health Services, there were over 1,000 heat related hospital visits during last year's Wisconsin summer.

For more information regarding heat related information, follow the CDCs information here: https://www.cdc.gov/niosh/heat-stress/about/illnesses.html

These past two weeks, fire crews have spent time training on rural water supply from a dry hydrant. A dry hydrant is used to pull (draft) water from a static source to help with supplying trucks with water during rural fire operations. McFarland Fire & Rescue's access to a dry hydrant is located at Fish Camp County Park and the water from the Yahara River.

The statewide tornado drill scheduled for this Thursday has been cancelled by Wisconsin Emergency Management. This is due to the storms and surveying damages that have impacted many areas throughout the state this week. Please, still take an opportunity to discuss with family and friends the emergency procedures at home, school and work for when severe weather strikes.

Today marks the start of Severe Weather Awareness Week in the State of Wisconsin. On Thursday, the statewide tornado drill will be conducted April 16th at 1:45 PM and again at 6 PM. It is an opportunity for you to practice what to do in case of severe weather at school, work and home. National Weather Service weather radio testing may be heard if you are listening at those times. Should there be any severe weather anywhere in the state on Thursday, the drills will be conducted on Friday (4/17/26). If there are severe weather conditions on Friday, the drills will be cancelled.

Being late for work has consequences. Some places have write ups, we have destroy your car. Just kidding!

We were fortunate enough to have vehicle available for recent extrication training. It provided an excellent chance to train with the tools and try different techniques. The hands on experience is valuable for our members and a great way to sharpen our skills.

Side note: Thank You to Firefighter/Paramedic Ginger Conroy for this lovely donation. She however, may have enjoyed this training just a little too much 😁👩🏼‍🚒
