Do what you can to share and support their mission.

Like you, we are keeping a close eye on the quickly changing landscape of how to best prioritize health and safety, both for ourselves and for our community. Our first concern is the health and well-being of you, our museum and foundation staff, and our volunteers. Even though the museum is cu...

Wisconsin Veterans Museum – Every Veteran is a Story

While the Wisconsin Veteran Museum remains closed at the present time, I wanted to be sure that you were aware of all the awesome features of their website! Reading oral histories has been amazing, perusing through their collection of artifacts as well. (Type in a 'keyword', you may be amazed at what you find!) Did you know we have four Medal of Honor recipients still living in Wisconsin? Spend some time...

FYI...
The “Turkey Gang” WILL NOT host the free Thanksgiving Dinner this year.
This year would have been the 28th year that the “Turkey Gang” has offered free Thanksgiving meals to the McFarland Community and beyond at the American Legion in McFarland.
Because of the stress and hardship that COVID-19 has put on the restaurant industry, we the “Turkey Gang” would ask our followers to support our LOCAL restaurants in their quest to survive during this pandemic.
With that said, the “Turkey Gang” will be back Thanksgiving, 2021.
Thanks for all your support Past, Present and Future…. Karen and Mike Larson

Sgt. Matthew Koeppel conducts his last walk as a Tomb Sentinel after 40 months of honoring the Unknowns and guarding the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

Upon completion of the last walk, the Sentinel participates in a rose-laying ceremony which gives them the opportunity to pay their last respects to the Unknowns with a physical gift versus the gift of self.

With Veterans Day just days away, I would like to invite you to follow the lead of two of our younger SAL members pictured here, Kaden and Ethan, and pay tribute to a Veteran in your life! (Or any and all Veterans!) Email us a photo of your tribute, (poster, artwork, door decoration) and we will proudly display it on our page! Feel free to include in the photo the artist and/or the Veterans you honor. We would love for you to share it in your home's window, and on your Facebook as well, show your community your gratitude for our nation's Vets. One name will be drawn from all submissions and awarded a token of our gratitude.
Our inspiration, the Peters boys, are the sons of SAL Charter member Paulie Peters and Sarah Jo Pulvermacher Peters and are members of the Sons of the American Legion Squadron 534 through the Service of their Grandpa, Past Commander Paul Peters.
Thanks for sharing, Peters family! 🇺🇲 ❤ 🇺🇸

Air Force Birthday is a holiday celebrated on September 18th annually to commemorate the day when the Air Force was officially separated from the United States Army in 1947. Prior to that year, the Air Force was a part of the Army and was known as the Army Air Force. However, lawmakers believed that it needed to be made into its own separate entity.

Today is National Purple Heart Day Started in 2014, Purple Heart Day is observed on August 7 each year and is a time for Americans to pause to remember and honor the brave men and women who were either wounded on the battlefield or paid the ultimate sacrifice with their lives. The Purple Heart has a noble heritage. It is the oldest award still given to combat-wounded veterans of the U.S. military. Established by George Washington in 1782 and originally called the Merit Badge, the Purple Heart has been awarded 1.8 million times to recognize the sacrifice and commitment of combat-wounded veterans.
