**THEN and NOW**
PEARL STREET BRIDGE
The 1½-lane trestle bridge spanning the Fox River was built in 1881. For many years, it served as the primary route into downtown McHenry and offered one of the best vantage points for watching the boat races that were often featured during summer festivals. In 1977, the historic bridge was replaced with a sturdier concrete structure designed to accommodate wider vehicles and provide two full traffic lanes across the river.

⭐️LETTERS/ CERTIFICATES OF APPRECIATION PROGRAM⭐️
We are pleased to announce a monthly recognition program celebrating the dedication of McHenry property owners who help preserve our community’s character.

Each month, the McHenry Landmark Commission will award Letters of Appreciation and Certificates of Recognition to owners of homes and businesses whose efforts in preservation, restoration, and thoughtful maintenance contribute to the beauty and heritage of McHenry.

Recognition is not limited to designated historic landmarks. Owners of any McHenry home or business that demonstrate exceptional preservation, restoration, or maintenance efforts will be considered.

Through these improvements, they are not only caring for their properties but also helping to protect and enhance the legacy of our community for future generations.

Here is the ANSWER to "WHERE IN McHENRY?"
PHOTO #29
This decorative lighting sconce is one of two fixtures that are at the front of the tiny building next to the 1970s City Hall along Boone Creek (across the street from Buddyz).
Notice it is not attached to the old City Hall building.
That's because it was not built when the 1970s City Hall building was constructed. This tiny building is pictured on the 1922 Sanborn Map and the 1933 Sanborn Map (thanks, Tom!). So, it has been there for quite some time!
But, WHAT WAS IT????
According to our very own McHenry City Planner, this building was an old well reservoir, now abandoned (thanks, Cody!).
