A shelter is open at Jackson County Middle School, 139 Highway 587 McKee. A shelter is a temporary facility designed to provide immediate, short-term, and safe housing for individuals who cannot return to their homes due to power outages. To register for the shelter, you may contact the Jackson County EOC at 606-287-3838 or utilize the QR code shown. Citizens planning to utilize the shelter should bring their personal pillows and blankets and may bring a reasonably sized bag of their personal items. We will maintain the shelter as long as there is a need. With the establishment of a primary shelter, the warming centers at Jackson County Public Library and Annville Baptist Church will be closing this evening.

Jackson County EOC remains open and staffed. Our volunteer firefighters along with the Sheriff’s Department and Police Department are conducting tree cutting and debris removal operations in blocked roadways to assist the State Highway Department and County Road Department. Several missions have been conducted to transport Jackson Manor staff to and from the facility by the Sheriff’s Office.

Due to widespread power outages and the impending cold temperatures expected, we are working to open a shelter for those without power and alternate heat. We have two community partners who have opened warming centers; Annville Baptist Church and the Jackson County Public Library. A warming center is a temporary, short-term emergency facility activated during dangerously cold weather to prevent hypothermia and injury from exposure. An emergency shelter is a temporary facility designed to provide immediate, short-term, and safe housing for individuals who cannot return to their homes due to a prolonged power outage. Information on the shelter will be released as soon as possible.

Our EOC is also fielding numerous calls for welfare checks and emergency supply needs. For life threatening emergencies, call 911. To report downed trees, contact the non emergency Dispatch number, 606-287-9979. For other inquiries, contact the Jackson County EOC at 606-287-3838.

**WINTER STORM IMMINENT**

A significant winter storm is set to impact the region Friday night 1/23 through Monday 1/26. Heavy snow, freezing rain, and frigid temperatures are anticipated. Hazardous travel, power outages, falling trees, and cold exposure are predominant hazards we seek to prepare for. Jackson County Emergency Operations Center (EOC) will be open to monitor the impacts. The Jackson County EOC coordinates with all first responders, utility companies, road departments, and government officials before and during disasters to prepare, mitigate, respond, and recover. As the impacts of this winter storm arise, we will provide information on this page to the public to communicate location and contact information as needed. Please prepare now for this winter storm. Listed below are some tips and information to address some frequently asked questions:
1) If you or a loved one is dependent upon supplemental oxygen, contact your provider now to stockpile supplemental oxygen supplies sufficient for the storm’s duration.
2) Warming centers and shelters depend on the status of travel, power, staff and require considerable coordination. We will monitor the status of power and travel throughout the storm and establish shelter(s) and/or warming center(s) as needed.
3) Stockpile supplies sufficient for at least 72 hours, including adequate food, water, medicine, and fuel (kerosene, propane, gasoline, firewood).
4) Obtain supplemental heat and light sources in case of power outage.
5) If you must travel, dress in a way that you can remain warm if you become stranded. Compile a travel kit of food, water, and medicine.
6) Be patient. Winter storms are incredibly taxing on first responders, utility workers, and road crews. Response times will be lengthy due to hazardous travel.
For emergencies, call 911. An emergency is a life-threatening situation requiring immediate police, fire, and/or emergency medical attention. Non-emergent calls can be placed to the Jackson County Dispatch administration line, 606-287-9979 or to Jackson County EOC, 606-287-3838.
