"An environmental legal services firm acting on behalf of residents living near Fairhaven Park has formally demanded that Kennedy Township immediately halt its plans to sell a 19.5-acre parcel of land adjacent to the park.
The cease and desist demand letter, served to township officials on June 5 on behalf of a group known as Friends of Fairhaven Park, claims that the proposed sale of the property, which was the subject of a bidding process triggered in mid-May, directly violates the state’s Donated or Dedicated Property Act as well as the township’s trustee duties under the Environmental Rights Amendment under the state Constitution."

Residents near Fairhaven Park, represented by an environmental legal services firm, demand Kennedy Township cease selling a 19.5-acre land parcel. They argue the sale violates state laws designed to protect public parks. Community members advocate for preserving the space as recreational land.

The Allegheny County Health Dept is proposing a mandate for ALL businesses in the county to provide 18 weeks of paid parental leave after an employee has been employed for 30 days.

The new policy would be a disaster for the county’s struggling small businesses and nonprofits, many of whom wouldn’t be able to afford the new benefit.

The Health Department will receive public comments until June 16. The earliest the board could vote would be at its next meeting on July 15.
