🌲 Forest Bioeconomy Symposium — From Fire Risk to Circular Stewardship Registration is now open!
📅 September 29–30, 2026 | Roughly 250 leaders — policymakers, tribal economic development leaders, investors, manufacturers, and university partners — are converging in the Redwood Region for two days of work that matters: building the market infrastructure and policy pathways for a thriving circular forest economy.

Day 1 — Field visits across Southern Humboldt, Arcata & Samoa, and the Hwy 299 Corridor
Day 2 — Opening remarks from Patrick Wright (Director, CA Wildfire and Forest Resilience Task Force), plus an international keynote from Prof. Dr. Raoul Klingner of Fraunhofer WKI, Germany — 80 years of turning "waste" wood into a global materials industry, and what it means for California's wildfire-resilient building codes.

This isn't a conference to sit and listen. It's a working gathering — bring your ideas, your networks, and your questions.

Had a fantastic day volunteering to help the remove invasive .

We had students do their capstone project on a new method of removing scotch broom.

The idea is to cut the broom with a chainsaw or loppers as low to the ground as possible - and this must be done when the plant is in the flowering stage.

When you time it right, anecdotal evidence from a group in British Columbia () has shown that this can be much faster, cheaper and drastically reduces soil disturbance (compared to removing roots).

Thanks to the folks of the Willow Creek Fire Safe Council for helping put this together, the hospitality, and to all the volunteers that showed up!

This is the first on many volunteer days that we are trying to coordinate across the county in hopes to keep the momentum going in order to protect our communities and forests.

If anyone would like to volunteer for future events or to share ideas/collaborate, please reach out.
