One the worst things that we deal with are animals who have been subjected to neglect and abuse. Recently, we have had two cases where small dogs that have the type of coat/fur/hair that requires regular grooming and did not receive that care. Once their coat starts matting, it becomes painful for the dog. This level of neglect can result in criminal charges. It is heartbreaking to see. Here are before and after photos of one of these little dogs. Thank you Rebecca from The Barking Lot for donating your time and expertise to clean up this little guy and get him feeling more comfortable. Next stop for him is the vet for an exam to address several medical concerns.

Our kitties and puppies are in need of canned pet food, our pantry is getting low. We would welcome any and all varieties as we use it as a supplemental to the dry kibble we feed. We often need it to help entice them to eat when young, old and ill. Wet food is an essential part of a pet's nutritional health. Our lobby is open Mo, Tu, Th, Fr, Sa 10-4 and We 10-7 (excluding New Year's Day) Or, you can shop our Amazon wish list https://a.co/ijAbkYx , Chewy, Walmart or any other online shopping source and have it drop shipped directly to us at The Humboldt County Animal Shelter 980 Lycoming Ave, McKinelyville, Ca 95519, 707-840-9132. We cannot express enough how much we appreciate our generous donors. We know our felines and canines definitely appreciate you as well!

The online auction ends at 8 pm, there are many great items to bid on. Check it out at https://flar.betterworld.org/auctions/holiday-auction-2025

We're down to the last eight hours of the auction! Now is the time to get in those last bids. All money raised goes to the Emergency Medical Fund which provides veterinary care for injured/sick cats and dogs. This saves lives in several ways - giving them the care that they need as well as allowing them to become adoptable pets.
Take a last look at the auction and see where you can bid up! This generator is brand new!

Many thanks to the community for joining us today for our Holiday Fundraiser for the Emergency Medical Fund. The raffle has ended, winners will be drawn on Monday 12/15. The online auction is still live through 8pm on Monday the 15th at https://flar.betterworld.org/auctions/holiday-auction-2025 If you want to support the Emergency Medical Fund and either lose the highest bid or just want to make a donation, you can do so by going to: www.dogrescuers.org and clicking on the Network for Good button (currently suffering a technical difficulty-it isn't present at the moment-that will hopefully be fixed soon) or by mailing a check to the Shelter Emergency Medical Fund Po Box 962, Eureka, CA 95502.
Even more thanks to everyone that worked to make it happen, the many volunteers and staff whom solicited donations from the community. Jeanette Duncan for organizing all of the raffle Items, Mara Segal for spearheading the online auction; Rachel, Mara and whomever else brought goodies for everyone to snack on. It is a huge effort to put this event on every year and the fact that we receive such overwhelming support helps to keep us going. We love you Humboldt County and our supporters out of the area as well!
