⚠️ SEVERE WEATHER AWARENESS NOTICE
Kickapoo Tribe of Oklahoma - Wednesday, April 1, 2026
The Kickapoo Tribe of Oklahoma is advising all tribal members, employees, and visitors to remain weather-aware due to the potential for severe weather impacts across central and southern Oklahoma, including our area, tomorrow afternoon through late evening.
🌩️ Expected Hazards
According to the National Weather Service – Norman and the Storm Prediction Center, the following threats are possible: Large hail, possibly up to quarter size or larger
Damaging straight-line winds, potentially exceeding 60–70 mph. Heavy rainfall and localized flooding Isolated tornadoes, while the risk is low, it is not zero. Storms are expected to develop late Wednesday afternoon, intensify into the evening hours, and gradually weaken after midnight .
📍 Risk Level
Portions of central and southern Oklahoma, including the Oklahoma City metro region, are under a Level 2 (Slight Risk) for severe thunderstorms on Wednesday 1.
Primary threats include large hail and damaging winds, with a low but present tornado threat 2.
✅ Safety Recommendations
Tribal members and staff are encouraged to take the following precautions:
Ensure you have multiple ways to receive weather alerts, including NOAA Weather Radio and mobile alerts.
Identify a safe shelter location at home and work (interior room, lowest level). Secure outdoor items and move vehicles under cover if possible.
