As we enter the first holiday weekend of the 2023 summer season, we want to remind drivers to slow down, buckle up, save the distractions for your destination, and always designate a sober driver. Members of the traffic team will be conducting enhanced enforcement patrols over the next several days, focusing on dangerous moving violations, aggressive driving, distracted drivers with mobile devices in their hands, the proper use of seatbelts, booster seats and child safety seats, as well as impaired drivers, utilizing Deputies, Officers and Troopers with advanced training in detecting motorists under the influence alcohol, cannabis, illicit drugs and prescription medications. If you observe a dangerous/reckless driver or suspect a driver may be impaired, please report it immediately by calling 911. *As a reminder, the driver of a motor vehicle is allowed to hold their phone when calling 911, if there is no one else in their vehicle reasonably capable of making the phone call to 911.

Members of the Multi-Agency Traffic Team(MATT), will be conducting an enhanced enforcement patrol this Saturday, August 28th, coinciding with the Cruising McMinnville event. In addition to the increased vehicle and pedestrian traffic and congestion, people should expect to see an increase in marked and unmarked police vehicles from team agencies within the City of McMinnville and on surrounding county roads and state highways, promoting a safe and enjoyable experience for spectators, participants and all other roadway users during this event.

As with all of our enhanced enforcement events, efforts will focus on dangerous driving behaviors, which include: distracted driving, speeding, careless and aggressive driving, as well as drivers who are impaired by alcohol, cannabis, illegal drugs or prescription medications. We will also be focusing on drivers who participate in any form of speed racing activities upon our roadways or within parking lots that are open to public travel. At a minimum, drivers participating in this type of driving behavior can expect traffic tickets with hefty fines, and when appropriate, arrests for Reckless Driving and Recklessly Endangering will occur.

Over the past 10 days, member agencies have stopped several vehicles for speeding violations in excess of 100 mph within Yamhill County. Those drivers were all issued traffic tickets with a base fine of $1150, one driver was arrested for Reckless Driving, and all face mandatory drivers license suspensions for 90 days upon conviction.

Members of the Multi-Agency Traffic Team(MATT), will be conducting enhanced enforcement patrols over the next several days, before, during, and after the scheduled concert and rodeo events at the Yamhill County Fair & Rodeo. The enforcement efforts will focus on dangerous driving behaviors, which include: distracted driving, speeding, careless and aggressive driving, as well as drivers who are impaired by alcohol, cannabis, illegal drugs or prescription medications. We encourage everyone to enjoy the fair and rodeo events over the next few days, but if your plans include alcohol, cannabis or another impairing substance, please plan ahead with a designated driver.
