๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™‚๏ธ COMMUNITY UPDATE #2 : Organized Retail Theft Operation

On August 3rd, 2026, the McMinnville Police Department conducted a second Organized Retail Theft operation in the City of McMinnville. The operation focused law enforcement and local retailer loss prevention staff working together to identify and apprehend subjects involved in retail thefts. This operation was specifically coordinated to occur during this week as part of a nation-wide โ€œblitzโ€ law enforcement effort to combat organized retail theft that is occurring throughout the United States.

The participating retailers in this operation have experienced significant financial loss associated with merchandise theft and in many cases, known repeat theft offenders have been identified as being responsible.

The operation involved 10 retailers and resulted in a total of 13 arrests and 17 total charges. The resulting arrests included arrests for multiple counts of theft, and 4 arrestees were found to be in possession of controlled substances (including methamphetamine and fentanyl). One subject was cited and released for theft at one location and was rearrested for theft at another location less than two hours later. Two arrestees also had Fail to Appear warrants for theft offenses that occurred in other jurisdictions.

๐Ÿ’ฐ A total of 142 stolen items were recovered from the arrestees and returned to retailers. The total value of items stolen was $939.99.

๐Ÿค This operation would not have been made possible without the assistance and participation of law enforcement officers and staff from the Yamhill County Sheriffโ€™s Office, Grand Ronde Tribal Police, Tigard Police Department, Lincoln City Police Department, Yamhill Police Department, Newberg Dundee Police Department, Oregon Department of Justice and Yamhill County District Attorneyโ€™s Office.

๐Ÿšจ NATIONAL NIGHT OUT CANCELLED ๐Ÿšจ
Out of an abundance of caution for the safety and well-being of our community, the 2026 National Night Out event scheduled for Tuesday, August 4, at Discovery Meadows Community Park has been CANCELLED.

Due to the ongoing fires, and projected poor air quality and expected high temperatures for our area this afternoon, we believe cancelling the event is the safest decision for our community, event participants, staff, vendors, and volunteers.

We know many of you were looking forward to an evening of fun, food, activities, and connecting with our community, and we are disappointed that we won't be able to celebrate with you this year.

A HUGE thank you to all of our community partners, vendors, volunteers, and everyone who helped make plans for this year's event. We truly appreciate your support and understanding. ๐Ÿ’™

Please continue to take care of yourselves, stay hydrated, and stay informed about current fire and weather conditions.

Thank you, McMinnville, for your understanding and continued support. We hope to see you at a future community event! ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿš”

During the month of July 2026, the McMinnville Police Department officers participated in an Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) sponsored National Speed Enforcement Campaign.

Officers conducted several directed speed enforcement details in areas where traffic crashes are more likely to occur and locations where excessive speed has been identified by community members.

The combined outcome for these enforcement details resulted in 29 citations and 32 warnings issued.

Obeying the posted speed limit reduces crashes and saves lives.

๐ŸŒŸ Caught Being Sweet: Celebrating Community Partnership! ๐ŸŒŸ

Last night at the McMinnville City Council meeting, MPD Officer Geoff Huey and Serendipity Ice Cream owner Becky Simpson were honored with the McMinnville Police Department Challenge Coin Award for creating the โ€œCaught Being Sweetโ€ program, which recognizes local youth and community members for doing good things, showing kindness, helping others, and making a positive difference in our community.

Through this partnership, we are celebrating the good happening around us while partnering with a local business to recognize and encourage positive actions in our community. We love the idea of honoring good deeds and finding ways to encourage more kindness throughout McMinnville.

๐Ÿฆ So, what does it mean to be โ€œCaught Being Sweetโ€?
When McMinnville Police officers see someone doing something kind, helpful, honest, or just plain awesome, they can recognize them with a special โ€œCaught Being Sweetโ€ reward card, which includes a voucher for a FREE delicious treat from Serendipity Ice Cream, located at 502 NE 3rd St in McMinnville!

Thank you, Officer Huey, Becky, and Serendipity Ice Cream, for turning a simple idea into a program that will help celebrate kindness throughout our community. Your partnership is making a positive impact and brings great honor to the McMinnville Police Department, the City of McMinnville, and our entire community. ๐Ÿ’™

And a very special thank you to the wonderful children who inspired this program in the first place! Their honesty, kindness, and willingness to help a stranger reminded us that great deeds deserve to be celebrated. Their good deed inspired an idea that we hope will encourage many more acts of kindness throughout our community. โค๏ธ

We are proud to celebrate everyone who is helping make McMinnville a kinder, stronger community!
