We are so thrilled to celebrate Starla Pointer of News-Register, for her first place in Education Reporting award in the Pacific Northwest Newspaper Publishing awards. Her story about our kindergarten transition camp earned her the award, and we’re so grateful for all she does to tell our district’s stories.

Thank you KATU News and Debora Knapp for sharing our story today. We're grateful for partners like Carlton Observatory at Evergreen, Outdoor Education Adventures, and Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum for providing enrichment opportunities for our Summer Learning Program. Roughly 500 students are getting hands-on experiences and honing their skills in our classrooms this summer.

McMinnville’s summer school feels like camp, with hands-on science, reading, and a mobile planetarium from Carlton Observatory. Funded by a rare ODE grant, it fights summer slide and builds fall readiness.
