Bower Hill second graders held a special ceremony this week in recognition of Flag Day! Students shared information about the history of our flag, said AND signed the Pledge of Allegiance and welcomed some special guests. Betsy Ross (aka Mrs. Hanak) stopped by as Betsy Ross to share her role in making our first flag. Members of the PT Fire Department were on hand to accept a donation from the class, and McMurray VFW Post 764 visited to share information with the students as well! Thank you to everyone who made this day so special!

Bower Hill third graders are getting excited about summer reading through a special "Booked for the Summer" event! Students visited four third-grade classrooms to discover a book series they might enjoy reading over the summer months. In each room, students will listen to excerpts from a different chapter book series and participate in a fun hands-on activity connected to the story. By the end of the week, every student will take home one of the four books, along with some of the special items they collected or created throughout their book journey. These treasures will serve as reminders that reading can be a fun and exciting part of summer! The third-grade teachers would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the Bower Hill PTA for generously providing the books and materials that made this program possible. Their support helps foster a love of reading and encourages our students to keep turning pages all summer long!

Members of the McMurray Rotary visited Bower Hill today for the annual Spelling Bee. Each fall the Rotary donates dictionaries to every third grade students and in the spring the students show how much they have learned! It was an impressive showing by all of our participants and the three top spellers earned a gift certificate from the Rotary for their expertise!

Students in Mrs. Pinto's AP U.S. History Class showed their creative side today for their American History Chalk Competition! They not only displayed their knowledge but their artistic savvy as well! Staff members will now vote on their favorite creation and the winner's design will be hung on the wall in Mrs. Pinto's classroom.
