Update on the Six Puppies

Thank you McPherson for all the support of our McPherson Animal Shelter and these six puppies!

After a thorough investigation, the McPherson Police Department was able to track down the mom of the six puppies.

We were able to get the owner to bring her to the McPherson Animal Shelter to feed and raise her puppies. Immediately the puppies latched on and momma laid down to snuggle them. 🥳

I’m not crying, you’re crying! 🥹

We will take care of mom and puppies until they are able to be adopted. She will receive all her shots and will be spayed. The disposition of momma will be decided by the courts. We want the best for them and we know you do as well.

We will forward a case to the prosecutor for pending charges and restitution. The investigation continues and everything can’t be shared for the integrity of the case.

We will also begin working on a resource list for owners and a few law change recommendations with our legislators for future cases.

Today at 11am, McPherson County 911 will be testing the tornado sirens in the city. We will have officers at each warning siren location in the city to make sure that they are operating properly.

🚨Just an information post🚨

We will be testing storm sirens today at 11am .

05/18/2026

Update: the storm warning has been lifted.

The city of McPherson is currently in a severe thunderstorm warning with reports of quarter size hail and wind gusts up to 70 mph possible. Please make sure you are in a safe place during the storm.

05/18/2026

We want to make sure you know of a few places, in town, we have checked with, that will allow you to go inside during a major storm for safety. We do not have a community storm shelter. Always plan ahead and we suggest you contact your church, a nearby school, or local business to see if they will allow you to take shelter at there location and if they would allow an animal.

The following places said they would be able to provide shelter only if they had staff, at the time of the storm, to open the doors.

We hope to add more to this list.

St. Joseph Catholic School, 520 E Northview
First United Methodist Church, 1200 E Kansas Avenue
McPherson Public Library, 214 W. Marlin Street
McPherson YMCA, 220 N Walnut Street
