McPherson BPU customers have the benefit of stable and competitive rates through an interconnect agreement with Westar Energy where McPherson BPU serves as Westar’s on-call peak provider. Our primary focus has always been, and remains, the satisfaction of its customers and a commitment to the quality of life in the communities it serves.

⚡ Storm Update: Last night's storms brought severe wind and challenging conditions, but BPU's electric system remained resilient as designed. While many customers experienced power "blinks," those interruptions were caused by failures on the regional transmission system outside of BPU's control. At the peak of the storm, 27 customers were without power, and all affected customers have since been restored.

Thank you to our dedicated crews for their quick response and hard work throughout the night. We're incredibly proud of our employees and the system they work hard to maintain.

Our thoughts are with the families, communities, and utility crews still dealing with outages, damage, and cleanup today.

Non-Residential Customer Reminder:
Peak Season Begins June 1st!

As summer temperatures rise, so does electric demand. McPherson BPU’s peak usage typically occurs on weekdays between 1–7 pm during June, July, and August.

The more electricity used during these peak times, the greater the impact on system costs. Reducing energy use during these peak hours can help lower Capacity & Transmission costs.

Help reduce peak demand by:
⚡ Adjusting A/C use
⚡ Limiting large equipment use during peak hours
⚡ Shifting non-essential tasks to mornings, nights, or weekends

Working together during peak times helps keep costs down for everyone!
