Can You Expunge an Eviction in Kansas?

For some Kansans, the answer may now be yes.

Kansas' new eviction expungement law could offer people with a past eviction an opportunity to move forward. In this week's Housing for Good snippet, Matt Keenan, J.D., Executive Director of Kansas Legal Services, explains what the new law could mean for Kansans and why many people may be able to begin the process without hiring an attorney.

Watch the snippet now, and join us Wednesday for the full conversation with Matt about eviction expungement, second chances, and the work Kansas Legal Services is doing across the state.

What if we could build quality homes differently and make homeownership more affordable in the process?

On this week’s Housing for Good, Chris and Karolyn talk with Kent Miracle, Chief Market Officer of Prime Craftsman Homes, about modern modular housing and why it could become an important part of addressing the affordable housing shortage.

They talk about how modular homes are built, why building in a controlled environment can lower costs without lowering quality, and what communities can do to make new housing easier to develop. They also discuss zoning, collaboration, skilled trades, workforce opportunities, and the importance of giving more families the opportunity to own a quality home and build equity.

It’s a conversation about housing, but it’s also about something
bigger: communities being willing to work together, try something different, and ask, “What if?”

What if one answer to the affordable housing shortage isn’t building cheaper homes, but building quality homes more efficiently? In this episode of Housing for Good, Chris and Karolyn sit down with Kent Miracle, Chief Market Officer of Prime Craftsman Homes, to explore how modern modular construct...

What does it take to build a quality home at a price more people can afford?

Kent Miracle of Prime Craftsman Homes explains how their approach—including in-house employees, specialized training, efficient production and purchasing materials in bulk—helps drive down costs.

As Kent puts it, the goal is to stay lean: **“Not cheap, but affordable.”** Maintaining that distinction allows the company to serve a part of the housing market where new homes can otherwise be difficult to find.

When families are struggling, asking for help shouldn't make things harder.

In Episode 110 of Housing for Good, Chris and Karolyn sit down with Shanelle Dupree, J.D., founder of Dupree Perspective, to talk about the connections between housing instability, poverty, foster care, and child welfare.

Shanelle explains why poverty is not neglect, why trust is so important when families ask for assistance, and how stable housing can play a critical role in keeping families together and helping them reunify.
The conversation also loo
ks at the bigger picture: What if housing providers, schools, health care, child welfare, courts, social services, and community organizations worked together so families didn't have to navigate every system alone?

As Shanelle puts it, “You didn't make better choices. You had better choices.”

Poverty and neglect are not the same thing, but within the child welfare system, the distinction can sometimes become blurred.

In this *Housing for Good* snippet, Shanelle Dupree, J.D., explains that poverty alone is not supposed to be a reason children are separated from their parents. Yet poverty and neglect can become conflated, making it difficult to distinguish between a family that is willfully neglecting a child and one that is struggling because life circumstances have left them without the resources they need.
