🚨 $1 FOR A BUCKLE! 🚨

State Farm and Wendy’s teamed up for a great reminder about something that can save lives — BUCKLE UP! ❤️

Today members of the Sheriff's Office helped hand out $1 to every person who came through Wendy’s buckled up! 🚗💵

It was a fun way to encourage everyone to make the right choice and remember that taking a few seconds to buckle your seatbelt can make all the difference.

Buckle up, drive safe, and arrive alive! 🙌

On Saturday, Sheriff Montagne was at Love's collecting donations for the Children's Miracle Network.
To collect funds, Sheriff Montagne assisted patrons of Love's with washing their windows, filling gas and doing a full bumper-to-bumper service and oil change... well maybe not the bumper-to-bumper service, maybe next time!
Sheriff Montagne had fun with it and appreciates everyone that helped support the cause.

With School back in session and buses back to delivering our future leaders, it is important that we all be reminded of the requirements to stop for buses at pick up and drop off locations.

Too often, we see it in the news, near miss crashes of drivers not paying attention and narrowly missing children crossing the street. These instances are avoidable if we all use caution and remain patient with school bus stops to ensure the safety of our communities' children.

This is NOT the day..... like any other day we suppose, for speeding and making rash decisions behind the wheel.

Visibility this morning is slightly better than a windowless room with no lights on.

Sheriff's Office personnel were engaged with a traffic crash investigation at one location and a traffic stop requiring an arrest at another.
During BOTH incidences, vehicles entered the area speeding, passing unsafely and braking abruptly. Opposite direction traffic was nearly struck numerous times at the arrest location. Personnel were nearly struck, and numerous responders came to assist to try and mitigate the excessive speeds at the crash location.

A simple, common sense decision to keep EVERYONE safe, is to
S L O W - D O W N
when the visibility does not even permit the speed limit to be reached safely AND turn on your lights during any type of inclement weather.

On Monday, August 24, 2026, Sheriff Montagne and Sergeant Rahe attended the monthly covered dish meal at the City of Windom Kansas Senior Center.
Following the meal and fellowship, Sheriff Montagne and Sergeant Rahe gave a short presentation on personal, home and financial safety. The highlighted point was not falling victim to scams.
Scams are a regular occurrence and the more people can we reach about what to watch for and what not to do, the better.

On Monday, August 17 2026 the Sheriff's Office attended the Central Christian Vender Fair.
The impairment googles again, were a big hit for visitors to our booth. It appeared the goggles were a real eye opener, with many students commenting on how unsafe they felt walking, let alone driving. Thank to everyone who came out and joined in the conversation with us.

⚠️ SLOW DOWN, BE SAFE ⚠️

Speeding is an EVERY DAY problem. Speeding in excess of 15 mph over the speed limit is just a way of life apparently depending on the day, time of day and season we are in.
SPEEDING COSTS and senselessly KILLS innocent people. You must slow down, not just because it is safe for you but because it is safer for literally every other person on that road with you.
Some of the speeds cited this weekend are wild. The wildest stop so far this weekend was conducted on Interstate 135. The vehicle was first observed traveling north bound at 100 mph, but after the Sgt turned around to stop the vehicle it increased speed to 105 mph.
The vehicle eventually stopped and two amazing things were discovered, the driver had "no idea" they were passing every other north bound vehicle out there AND the 4 year old in the back seat didnt have the proper carseat.
A citation was issued on this stop requiring the driver to appear in District Court.
Traffic Stops are not "fun", we don't enjoy hurting anyone financially; these traffic stops are conducted for the SOLE PURPOSE of saving lives, and that's what happened tonight.
