Our hearts are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of one of our own. Chris & I learned to be Paramedics together and definitely could tell many stories from that class! We all had growing pains, as I like to call them, and definitely had many conversations over the years, mostly about the fact that we actually survived it. But we made it through, stepping out into this crazy world of EMS, making our way, one call at a time, doing our best to make a difference. Which was exactly what he loved to do. I had the opportunity to watch him witness to Pt’s at their lowest about his own trials of life, and was truly amazed at the connections he made. He gave them Hope & Grace when they had none & needed it the most. Chris was certainly one of a kind and will be missed by everyone in his EMS family. Rest easy Chris, we’ll take it from here.

Georgia Stay SAFE Week (June 21-27) - Firearm Safety

Sunday, June 21, marked the official start of summer and the beginning of Georgia Stay SAFE Week. As children spend more time at the homes of friends, neighbors, and family members during summer break, Georgia Stay SAFE Week serves as the kickoff to our summer-long awareness campaign focused on safe firearm storage, parent-to-parent conversations, and helping children understand what to do if they encounter a firearm. SAFE stands for:

S – Store Fi****ms Securely

A – Ask Before Play

F – Focus on Safety

E – End Firearm Injury

Why Stay SAFE?

Children are naturally curious. During the summer months, they spend more time exploring, playing, and visiting the homes of friends and relatives. Safe firearm storage, parent-to-parent conversations, age-appropriate safety education, and other layers of protection can help prevent tragedies before they occur.

The Georgia Stay SAFE message encourages families and communities to use multiple layers of protection to help keep children safe:

• Store fi****ms securely when not in use

• Ask about firearm storage before children visit another home

• Talk with children and teens about firearm safety

• Promote safe storage and injury prevention within their communities

Telfair County EMS is pleased to announce the receipt of a grant from the Georgia Department of Public Health, enabling the provision of Narcan to EMS for the citizens of Telfair County. We would like to thank Assistant Director, Robby Reese for securing this grant. This grant has provided extra to add to our current supply, allowing us to provide Narcan to our Volunteer Fire Department’s to have in an emergency. As we all hope that we never have to use it, it is a resource that we will have if needed.
