This is a story about strong women.

The death of a husband two days ago. The death of a 30 year old son two days ago. The death of a 4 year old son decades ago. A breast cancer diagnosis. A lot of tears.

And all I thought I was doing this morning was getting a mammogram.

Instead I had the honor- the opportunity- the blessing- to sit in the presence of these graceful, strong, amazing women- who showed up at their appointments two days after these tragic losses.

This is real life. It’s messy. Unpredictable. Unfair. And down right heartbreaking at times.

But the woman who I spoke to the longest-- who will bury her 30 year old special needs son, but not until she finishes her cancer surgery and radiation treatments- said she knew this happened because she was the primary caregiver of this angel son- and she wasn’t sure who would care for him after her cancer surgery. So God came and took him to care for him directly. Her exact words.

He went to room 9 for hospice- Cloud Nine afterwards. She spoke of him being born and dying as an angel. We all cried with her. Listened. And hugged.

And the beautiful 75 year old hospital volunteer who just happened to be there today- comforted her- because she buried her 4 year old son after he drowned several decades ago. She sat and held space for her. We hugged.

I got to be a human today with amazing women. And I’m eternally thankful for them sharing their stories while we all waited to get our tatas smashed.

Life is messy. And unpredictable. And unfair.

But you truly can find beauty underneath tragedy.

What do you ‘let yourself do’ on a day off?

If you’re like me, I struggle to do nothing. It feels- icky, scary, (and a little bit exciting) and makes me feel like I might get in trouble at any minute. 🙈🫣

When ‘he who works the hardest is the winner’ is wired into your being, relaxing can be nearly impossible.

But the most famous high achievers will tell you this- following the Three R’s can transform your ability to achieve.

Rest.
Relax.
Reset.

The question is HOW are you going to learn how to do this without threatening your sense of accomplishment?
