Reminder about how trash & recycling is going this week. Also, if you see our PW (Public Works) drivers, give them a smile, a wave or a word of gratitude. They've been working some LONG hours to get the roads clear in addition to their usual responsibilities the past couple of weeks with back to back storms.

Due to the winter storm, Monday’s garbage route will be collected tomorrow, February 4. 🚮

GFL, your recycling service provider, is operating on a one-day delay. ♻️

Please have your bins at the street by 7 a.m. As a reminder, bulk, brush, and loose leaf collection will be limited this week.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as crews work through weather-related delays.

UPDATE: Sunday at 8:40 pm - JUST checked GFL's website again and they have announced they will be CLOSED on 2/2. My apologies, I had anticipated that they would have made the call earlier today. I am correcting my original post (below) so folks will have the most current info.

Hey neighbors - This note is specifically for folks who are supposed to have recycling picked up tomorrow, 2/2 (Downtown, Fair Oaks, Bradford Place, etc):

GFL now has posted that it will NOT be picking up recycling tomorrow, 2/2. The City will also be delaying trash collection service and will run their usual "Monday Route" on Wednesday this week.

Thanks all!

Same goes in Mebane 🤣

In all seriousness, let the crews do their jobs and work on clearing the roads. Stay home unless you absolutely need to go out. Thanks all! 🩵

Still snowing, still dangerous on the roads - especially for boneheads. Stay home, stay warm, and stay up to date with the link in the comments!

Taking a moment to express a lot of gratitude today!

First off, I want to acknowledge our Public Works crew. They were out this morning checking roads and plowing where they can to help clear roads before we get below freezing again tonight.

I am so thankful that this storm didn't cause any power outages and our emergency responders reported that folks did a great job staying off the roads as much as possible. I'm thankful our MPD and MFD were READY for anything though!

There are many things I love about Mebane - and weekends like this one really highlight how wonderful our City employees are AND also highlight how wonderful our community members are. During storm prep, I saw neighbors helping each other, I saw friendly folks working at our grocery stores (despite how busy they were!), I heard that one of our fast food restaurants took food over to the fire fighters, one neighborhood made sure the police knew they had hot coffee ready at any time. Those are just the things I know about, and I'm certain there are many other unseen acts of kindness between neighbors.

Thanks for being an amazing community. There is nowhere else I'd rather "hunker down" 🩵

(*Pardon the extension cord in the pic... We still have some Christmas lights up on the tree!)

Quick updates!

First off, THANK YOU for staying off the roads last night and today. It has made our police, fire and public works jobs much easier.

Second, I'm pleased to see that as of this afternoon (3:30 pm on Sunday) it looks like everyone in our area still has power. We are not totally out of the woods yet with winter weather, there is another band of freezing rain heading our way, so please continue to prepare for possible power outages.

Third, our city offices will be closed tomorrow and trash pick up that usually happens on Mondays will happen on Wednesday. Recycling services that typically happen tomorrow, Monday, will be on Tuesday this week.

Stay safe, warm and continue to keep up the great effort to stay off the roads ❤️.

Hey folks - It is time to think ahead to this weekend. The weather forecast is calling for a wintery mix to start on Saturday midday/afternoon.

A couple of requests/suggestions for prep:

1) Please plan ahead so that you can avoid being on the roads when the bad weather starts. This will aid our Public Works road clearing efforts AND keep roadways open for our MPD and MFD response calls. I know some folks will have to be out for getting to or from work or checking on relatives, etc. but please help out our hardworking crew members whenever you can and stay home 🩵

2) Be prepared for possible power outages. Have some shelf stable foods & beverages/water and back up power sources (batteries, power banks, propane, etc.) ready to go. Have them easily accessible :)

3) Charge devices - My kids are going to be making sure their tablets/handheld game devices are good to go!

4) Personal lesson from this summer: Go ahead and get laundry done and dishes washed!

5) For those outside the city on well water with an electric well pump - have some water ready for toilet flushing and other needs.

6) Sign up for CODE RED alerts if you haven't done so already. Go to cityofmebanenc.gov and look for the "Code Red" button to sign up!

Did I miss anything? Feel free to share your ideas/suggestions in the comments! Thanks all!

My friend shared this (thanks Tanner Deisch!) and I wanted to be sure to pass it along.

This week would be an excellent time to make sure you have what you need in the event of a snow/ice storm. As we learned in July - our crystal balls are broken, but keeping a ready supply of "just in case" items is always a good plan 🩵.

🚨 Major Winter Storm Becoming Increasingly Likely Later This Week 🚨

Confidence has increased regarding significant snow and ice stretching from the Southern Plains on Friday to the Mid-Atlantic this weekend. Be sure to check back for the latest updates and Key Messages. Visit www.weather.gov for local forecast information.

🚨 Black Friday Traffic, Parking & Road Closure Advisory 🚨

Black Friday draws thousands of shoppers to our area, creating heavy traffic congestion and increased parking demand. To help everyone arrive safely and avoid unnecessary delays, we encourage patrons to allow extra travel time, consider ride-sharing or carpooling, and use available on-site parking guidance resources.

🚫 Temporary Road Closure Notice
The entrance to Apple Cross Drive at Arrowhead Boulevard (from Arrowhead Blvd/Arrowhead intersection near Arrowhead Blvd @ Apple Cross Dr) will be temporarily closed at Arrowhead/Apple Cross to support safe traffic flow.

🏠 Respect Neighborhoods – Avoid the Tow
We are partnering with residents near major shopping areas to address unauthorized parking on private neighborhood property. The Mebane Police Department will be assertively towing vehicles parked on neighborhood private property without permission. This ensures emergency access stays clear and protects residential safety.

🅿️ Use Tanger’s Concierge & Mitigation Services
To reduce parking issues, we strongly encourage:
• 👥 Ride-sharing / rideshare drop-offs
• 🔁 Carpooling when possible
• 🧑‍✈️ Tanger Concierge Parking guidance
• 🧭 Tanger Concierge services to pre-plan your parking
• 🅿️ Tanger Concierge-supported parking navigation
• 💼 Concierge parking direction support on site

🚐 Ride-Share, Save Time, Share the Load
Allowing for extra time, shared rides, and smart parking plans make the day better for everyone. We appreciate your patience, planning, and partnership in keeping our roads and neighborhoods safe. Enjoy your holiday, and thank you for helping make Black Friday smoother for residents, businesses, and visitors alike.

Last night's first ever Nutcracker Gala was wonderful! Looking forward to seeing nutcrackers take over our Downtown for all to see while shopping for the holidays!

This moment was my favorite of the night. Sweet Amelia loves to dance and loves watching others dance ❤️. She set herself front and center to take in the abbreviated Nutcracker performance that we were treated to during the event. I loved watching her take it all in!
