Cook's Mill

Cook's Mill Cooks Mill is a late 1800's grist mill that was once powered by water. Cooks Mill is an actual grist mill located north of Mebane.

The existing building is possibly the third building on a mill site that dates back to pre-revolutionary times. It is situated on the banks of Mill Creek which flows north through the area. Although the wheel stopped turning in the late 1950's much of the setting is just as it was when it was fully operational.

Tonight lightning struck the transformer beside Cook's Mill, we would like to thank Mebane Fire Department , Duke Power and DOT for their quick response. Gratefully, the mill is unharmed!

From the Alamance Gleaner April 15, 1886 article: Mr J.L. Tate of Mebane, has taken a contract to build a new grist mill for corn and wheat for our townsman, Mr L Banks Holt, on mill creek, two miles north of Mebane at the old Giles Mebane Mill. It is to be put up in good style. Mr Tate is a practical machinist and builder.

So this article gives a timeline of when Cooks Mill was built and the mill is at least 129 years old
