Today, members of the Mebane Police Department proudly participated in the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics North Carolina in support of Special Olympics athletes across the state. Mebane PD was honored to be joined by members of the Mebane Fire Department during the event, demonstrating the strong partnership between our public safety agencies. We would also like to extend our sincere appreciation to the Burlington Police Department and Orange County Sheriff’s Office for assisting with traffic control and helping ensure the event was conducted safely for both participants and the public.

The Law Enforcement Torch Run is an annual statewide event that helps raise awareness and funds for Special Olympics North Carolina. Law enforcement officers from across the state carry the “Flame of Hope” through their communities to help support year-round athletic training and competition opportunities for individuals with intellectual disabilities.

We had an incredible time with our brothers and sisters at the Mebane Fire Department supporting a great cause for Special Olympics! While they barely squeaked out a win against us in the softball game earlier this year, we were proud to even the score by taking the W in dodgeball. Turns out they’re a lot better at responding to calls than dodging balls. 🚒🤾‍♂️

In all seriousness, events like this are what community partnership is all about; good competition, a lot of laughs, and everyone coming together to support something bigger than ourselves. We’re already looking forward to more friendly battles in the future for great causes, and we hope the community will continue coming out to support them.

Until next time… we’ll let Mebane Fire get back to what they do best, and we’ll keep the dodgeball trophy warm for them.

⚠️ SCAM ALERT ⚠️

The Mebane Police Department has received reports of scam phone calls from individuals falsely claiming to be members of our department. In one recent incident, the caller identified himself as “Officer Franklin” and told the victim they had missed jury duty and needed to make immediate arrangements to avoid consequences.

Please be aware:
• The Mebane Police Department will NOT call you demanding payment or personal information over the phone for missed jury duty or similar matters.
• Scammers often use names of current or former law enforcement officers to appear legitimate.
• They may also “spoof” phone numbers to make it appear the call is coming from a legitimate agency.

If you receive a suspicious call:
✅ Hang up immediately
✅ Do not provide personal or financial information
✅ Look up the agency’s phone number yourself and call directly to verify
✅ Report the incident to local law enforcement

Please help us protect our community — especially elderly and vulnerable citizens who are often targeted in these scams. Share this post to help spread awareness.

Stay safe and stay vigilant!
