Allow us to (re)introduce you to our 2026 Mebane Sports Hall of Honor and Hall of Fame inductees. Up next, our 2026 Hall of Fame inductees:
Captain. Competitor. Ambassador. Champion.
Wayne Petty’s dedication to athletics, leadership and service has left a lasting impact on Eastern Alamance, Appalachian State University and the Mebane community. A standout student-athlete at Eastern Alamance High School, Wayne earned All-Conference honors in both football and golf while helping lead his teams to conference championships. An Eagle Scout and Key Club President, he demonstrated excellence in academics, athletics and service from an early age.
At Appalachian, Wayne continued his success as a four-year letterman in golf and became the program’s first two-time team captain. He played a key role in multiple Southern Conference Championship teams while earning honors as Southern Conference Runner-Up Medalist and Etowah Valley Invitational Medalist. Recognized nationally as an Outstanding National College Senior Athlete, Wayne also distinguished himself as President of Pi Kappa Fraternity and the ASU Interfraternity Council, reflecting his leadership both on and off the course.
Wayne’s passion for competition and commitment to excellence continued long after college through decades of success in amateur golf. A multiple-time Southwick Amateur, Alamance County Amateur and Brookwood Amateur Champion, he also contributed to a National Championship team at the American Cancer Golf Tournament and was honored as the Nissan Forklift Pinnacle Lifetime Achievement National Winner in 2012. Through his accomplishments, leadership and dedication to family and community, Wayne Petty’s legacy continues to inspire athletes and the Mebane community for generations to come.
