SEARSMONT, Maine β€” Funeral arrangements have been announced for Searsmont Assistant Fire Chief Wayne Woodbury, who died from injuries sustained in the devastating Robbins Lumber fire and explosion.

Woodbury, 76, passed away Sunday at a Portland hospital after battling injuries suffered while responding to the May 15 emergency at Robbins Lumber in Searsmont.

A memorial service honoring Woodbury's life and service is scheduled for Wednesday, June 24, at 1:00 p.m. at Belfast Area High School.

Earlier this week, firefighters, law enforcement officers, family members, and community supporters gathered along roadways across Maine to pay tribute during a procession honoring the longtime firefighter.

Woodbury became the second person to die as a result of the Robbins Lumber disaster, following the death of Morrill firefighter Andrew Cross.

Community members are expected to gather in large numbers next week to remember Woodbury's decades of dedication, leadership, and service to the people of Searsmont and surrounding communities.
